Chenango County Public Health announced that they have 60 second-doses scheduled to complete & they are also anticipating over 1,000 Pfizer doses to arrive this week, which can be used for ages 12 and up. A clinic is being held Wednesday June 2nd at the Oxford Fire Station from 1:30 to 8:30 pm and at the former Label Shopper Store location in the South Plaza, Norwich from 2 pm to 7 pm, by appointment which can be made at co.chenango.ny.us, or by calling 337-1660.

UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital’s Sidney office on Pearl Street, will host a Pfizer vaccination Clinic this Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Local Dr. Rohan Jayasena told WCDO News that the Pfizer Vaccine is the favored Vaccine for children 12 to 18, that will enable them to get back to pre-covid activities like school & sports:

The Clinic is for youth ages 12 to 18, appointments must be made at 337-4888, the clinic is open to all area youth, and they do not have to be UHS patients.

Delhi Village Police responded on May 8th for a report of a person passed out behind the wheel of a running motor vehicle, Police found 3 people who all appeared to be suffering from an opioid overdose. They were taken to O’Connor Hospital for treatment. Police discovered of a small amount of heroin in the vehicle; resulting in the arrests of 60-year-old Ronald Alston of Portlandville, 69-year-old Charles David Jr. of Delhi & 67-year-old Thaddeus David of Portlandville on drug charges, all 3 were released with appearance tickets returnable to the Delhi Town Court.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced expanded summer hours beginning this Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM through Sunday of the Labor Day weekend. Timed admission tickets are available for purchase at baseballhall.org on a first-come, first-served basis; this will allow visitors to reserve a specific date and time to enter the Museum, alleviating congestion in the front lobby and throughout the Museum. Face masks for all staff and guests is required, Until further notice, the Hall of Fame’s Bullpen Theater, Learning Center and Sandlot Kids’ Clubhouse remain closed.

Governor Cuomo announced that, based on current COVID trajectory, all New York State schools will reopen for full in-person learning for the 2021-2022 school year beginning in September. The Governor said that if there is a change in the trajectory of the virus, they will revisit this decision.

The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee joined with law enforcement to announce the kickoff of the annual “Buckle Up New York, Click it or Ticket” campaign. The enforcement mobilization runs until June 6th, State Police and local law enforcement agencies will use marked and unmarked vehicles, have set up checkpoints, and roving details, & they will ticket unbelted drivers during the campaign.

Law Enforcement Agencies in Otsego County have responded to a reported Bank Robbery at the NBT Bank Branch at 1 West Street in Edmeston at about 11:30 this morning. The Edmeston Central School District & Pathfinder Village were locked down and State Police & Otsego County Sheriff’s deputies have been investigating. WCDO Will have more information as it becomes available.

The Sidney Police Department arrested 43-year-old Jack Blanchard of Guilford for 2 counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance. The arrest is the result of a 2-month investigation into the sale of Cocaine in the Village of Sidney. Blanchard was arrested on an Arrest Warrant Sealed Indictment issued by Delaware County Court. He was sent to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await arraignment on the charges.

Schoharie County Judge Richard Mott did not reach a verdict in the 4th Cal Harris Murder trial Friday. Judge Mott had deliberated for about 12 hours on Thursday & Friday; he had not reached a decision on whether Call Harris murdered his estranged wife Michelle on September 11th, 2001. Deliberations will continue on Tuesday.

Congressman Chris Gibson announced the passage in the House of an amendment he authored in support of former Navy and Marine Corps personnel and other Veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange during their service aboard vessels off the coast of Vietnam and now have serious illnesses that are directly connected to that exposure. The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act ensures those Veterans is granted presumptive coverage for Agent Orange exposure. The House bill introduced by Congressman Gibson has 320 cosponsors from both parties, while the Senate version introduced by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has 41 bipartisan cosponsors.

The New York State DOT announced that construction work for the Prospect Mountain construction project will be performed and will require lane closures in the City of Binghamton. Beginning tomorrow, through Thursday, from 9 AM to 3:00 PM, I-81northbound/State Route 17 westbound will be reduced to 1 lane between Exit 3 and 4S for the removal of concrete barrier. The right two lanes will be closed. On Thursday, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, I-81 northbound/State Route 17 westbound Exit 4S will be closed temporarily for the removal of concrete barrier. A signed detour will be in place directing motorists around the ramp closure. All work will be performed weather permitting.

The Village of Sidney announced that work would be performed on the Main Street Bridge on Tuesday May 24th from 9:00 to 3:00 PM. The bridge will be open for 1 lane traffic only during the work.

24-year-old James Spain of Walton pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct, for allegedly performing sexual acts with an under-aged female. Spain was released on his own recognizance; Sentencing is scheduled for July 18th.

Governor Cuomo today announced $500,000 in federal funding has been awarded to the New York State Academy of Fire Science in the Southern Tier. The funding will support a crude oil training simulation for first responders. This marks the third consecutive year that the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Office of Fire Prevention and Control has been awarded this funding. The Academy trains over 6,000 emergency services providers from across the state in over 130 courses per year.

The State Senate Task Force on heroin & Opioid Addiction have issued a 4-part plan to combat the crisis in New York State. The plans call for increasing prevention efforts by trying to limit prescriptions for the legal medications from Doctors, opioid education to prescribed patients & Establishing a Narcan kit registry. The plan also calls for increased penalties for existing & new laws dealing with the sale of controlled substances. This year’s state budget commitment of $166 million for heroin and opioid crisis, treatment, outpatient, and residential services, was increased by another $25 million follow the report from the Senate task Force.

U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer introduced a bill to expand Brady background checks. Schumer introduced Brady Bill 2 after more than 2,000 advocates flooded his office Monday morning with phone calls. Senator Schumer’s original Brady Bill has prevented more than 2.6 million gun sales to domestic abusers, violent felons, and people with dangerous mental illnesses; the new bill will expand background checks to all gun sales.

The brand name Time Warner Cable will soon disappear, as Charter Communications announced that they will phase out Time Warner Cable’s name as a result of its $55.1 billion acquisition of the company. Charter Officials announced that the Time Warner aquiisition along with that of Bright House Networks, will both be combined under the “Spectrum” brand name.

The State DOT will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, May 24, regarding plans to rehabilitate a bridge on State Route 28 in the town of Milford. The meeting will be held at Milford Central School, at 7:00 PM. The bridge was built in 1985 and carries State Route 28 over State Route 7 and the Norfolk Southern Railroad Freight Main Line. All Area School Districts had their school budget propositions passed by their voters yesterday. Several area districts that exceeded the tax cap requiring a 60% super majority vote also passed. Governor Cuomo announced $1 million in funding to expand access to addiction treatment services and family supports in the Southern Tier, and other locations to connect patients in Emergency Departments to appropriate treatment and support programs. In the Southern Tier, $250,000 was awarded to Addiction Center of Broome County in Binghamton, for those in need in Broome and neighboring Counties, starting June 1st. Oneonta Police responded to a report of a residential burglary in progress on Elm Street. officers were met outside by the homeowners who reported that the suspect was still inside the residence, officers discovered a man exiting the house through a first floor window, the suspect resisted arrested & was identified as 21 year old Paul Dorego Jr, of Sag Harbor. The subsequent investigation revealed that Mr. Dorego had entered the residence through the back door after breaking two windows. Dorego was charged with 2nd degree Burglary, Criminal Mischief & Resisting arrest, he faces court action shortly.

Governor Cuomo today announced that the Unemployment Insurance reforms in 2013 have resulted in additional savings for New York State employers in terms of their State Unemployment Insurance contributions. Employers have already saved an estimated $200 million through the early repayment of federal debt with each saving, on average, an estimated total of $1,200 or $84 per employee. As a result, the Unemployment Insurance contribution rate schedules have been adjusted downward, reducing costs and saving employers up to an additional $42.80 per employee.

State Police arrested 30-year-old Patrick Hill of Whitney Point on 3 counts of sexual abuse and 1 count of endangering the welfare of a child. Hill is accused of having sexual contact with a victim less than 14 years old several times in the Town of Nanticoke; Hill was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Nanticoke court on February 25th.

35-year-old Anthony Thompson of Binghamton faces an animal cruelty charge for allegedly neglecting 7 dogs on a property in Chenango County. 7 pit bulls were saved from the property in North Norwich; all of the dogs are now in the state’s custody & are being treated at an animal clinic in Norwich. Thompson is currently in custody & faces court action shortly.

The Federal Olmstead act may be proving to be counter productive to the developmentally disabled, that have been moved from Broome Developmental into group homes. Area Assemblyman Cliff Crouch Comments:

Crouch said that he expects to be involved in a Task Force that will hold hearings around the state, where similar situations have occurred, and concerns have been registered to lawmakers.

State Police arrested 60-year-old Sandra Simmons of Port Crane for the felony of aggravated DWI with a B.A.C. result of .23% plus other traffic violations. The arrest occurred after a Broome county 911 report of an erratic driver in Johnson City. Simmons was arraigned & was remanded to the Broome County jail with no bail set at this time. Her next court date in the Village of Johnson City is pending.

Annual local sales tax collections declined in 30 of the 57 counties outside of New York City last year, according to a report issued today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Total collections across the state grew by 3.6% in 2015, but the increase was nearly exclusively driven by New York City. Elsewhere, growth in local sales tax collections was a mere 0.7%. 10 counties experienced a decline of more than 3%, including Delaware County.
