NYSEG & Rochester Gas and Electric announced plans to increase rates, in order to continue to switch over to clean energy resources and update their facilities. The “Reliable Energy NY” plan proposes a rate structure that would add $10-18 to the average electric or gas residential customer’s monthly, which is a 13 to 22% increase on each bill. The new rates are proposed to into effect on May 1, 2023, they must get approval from the Department of Public Service before implementing a rate increase.

The Rolling Antiquers Annual Antique Auto Show & Flea Market will beheld Saturday & Sunday at the Chenango County Fairgrounds in Norwich. Sidney Police Department arrested a Springfield Center woman for several charges during a traffic stop, after an officer observed a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker. The officer attempted a traffic stop, before the officer could exit the vehicle, the suspect took off. The officer pursued the vehicle onto I-88, the suspect stopped, put the vehicle in reverse and backed into the officer’s vehicle, & left again. A 2nd officer joined the pursuit, & eventually, police arrested 19 year old Isabella Lepetich, who was charged with Driving while ability impaired by drugs, Operating without inspection, Illegal signal from parked position & Failure to obey a police officer. Lepetich was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court & was released & was ordered to appear in court at a later date. The investigation is still on going and more charges are expected to be filed.

The General Clinton Canoe Regatta festivities begins tonight with the Generation Gap Races, youth races & activity at General Clinton Park in Bainbridge, Regatta Chairman John Harmon said that the biggest change this year, is having no activities on Monday, Memorial Day:

Today & tomorrow, Sidney Central School District Alumni will join retiring band director Gregg Norris on stage for 2 evenings of music. Both concerts begin at 7:00 pm in the Sidney High School Auditorium and are free and open to the public. Tonight’s concert will highlight the regionally known jazz program, Saturday evening will feature the Concert Band program. Sidney Alumni from as far back as 1973 are scheduled to participate.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame Classic returns for the 12th edition Saturday at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown. 7 Hall of Famers will be joined by players representing all 30 Major League Baseball teams, for the 7-inning legends game. The Annual Dedication will be held tomorrow morning for the Sidney Veteran’s Memorial Park, will be held at the Sidney Elks Lodge at 11:00 AM, it was moved due to expected inclement weather. The Appellate Division of state Supreme Court has declared that farm workers have the same right to unionize as all other workers in New York State.  State labor laws excluded farm workers from collective bargaining rights, that was ruled unconstitutional Thursday.  The New York Farm Bureau said that they will appeal to the state’s highest court, the Court of Appeals.

Filmmaker Lori Bailey grew up in the Adirondacks & in Oneonta, she directed the film “Garrow” about Adirondack Serial Killer Robert Garrow, who was once the target of the biggest manhunt in state history when he was killed in 1973; Bailey told WCDO News that her film will be shown this weekend in Oneonta:

The 92nd Scripps National Spelling Bee starting Sunday through next week & for the 3rd year in a row, Bainbridge resident Melodie Loya will be participating.    Loya placed 18th and 25th in her two previous years of national competition, and made it to the final 41of last year’s 516 spellers.  The Scripps national Spelling Bee will be held Sunday through next Friday at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in Fort Washington, Maryland.

The STOP-DWI enforcement period runs through Monday night, Governor Cuomo announced that temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York State highways will be suspended through Tuesday morning at 6:00 AM, to accommodate increased travel throughout Memorial Day weekend.

Binghamton Police arrested 19-year-old Jalil Butts of Binghamton for 2nd-degree attempted murder, in connection with the shooting of a woman in a car on St. Patrick’s Day on Chenango Street. 19-year-old Antonio Jones of Taftville, Connecticut was arrested last month in connection with the same shooting, he was charged with attempted murder and assault.

A jury found 26 year old Danielle Agosto of Endicott guilty Thursday for fracturing the skull of a toddler in her care.  Agosto was found guilty of 2nd-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, she was returned to jail & will be sentenced June 21.
