The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office & Norwich Police arrested 25-year-old Randy Wilcox of Sherburne for driving while intoxicated, following a 1-car accident in the Town of Sherburne on June 1st. The Wilcox vehicle left its lane of travel and exited the State Hwy 12B, the vehicle struck numerous objects; an eyewitness told police that the vehicle left the scene & continued To Norwich. Wilcox was charged with DWI, he was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court where he was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail, pending future court action.

State Police arrested 49 year old Preston Bryant of Hartwick for 3rd degree Assault, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation, and Menacing, after troopers responded to dispute in the Town of Hartwick. Bryant is accused of punching & choking the victim, Bryant was arraigned in the Town of Hartwick court and was remanded to the Otsego County jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond, pending court action on Wednesday. An order of protection was issued against Bryant on behalf of the victim.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Department arrested 25-year-old Samuel Ackerman of Norwich for criminal contempt. Ackerman was charged following a complaint filed for allegedly violating of an order of protection by sending letters while incarcerated, to a woman who had filed for the Court order. Ackerman is being held in the Chenango County Jail unrelated charges; he faces court action on the new charge shortly.

The SUNY Oneonta University Police Department has named Jennifer Fila as the new campus police chief. Fila was previously the deputy chief at the SUNY Albany University Police, she will start in Oneonta July 12th.

New York State of Health & the WIC program are working together to share information about and enroll participants in affordable health insurance coverage. Through the end of the month, assistors trained and certified by NY State of Health will hold 92 in-person informational sessions at 26 WIC clinics across the State. A Delaware County Grand Jury handed down Sealed Indictments, Deputies arrested 30 year old Nicole Sass of Denver, New York on a the Sealed Indictment Warrant charging her with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, she is accused of selling Hydrocodone in the Village of Margaretville in January of this year. Sass was arraigned in Delaware County Court on Monday afternoon and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail pending further court action.

Ackermann and the 17 year old female were apprehended trying to get help from a nearby residence; they were taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries, A search warrant was executed on the vehicle & at an address in Pharsalia, Police seized heroin, a loaded long gun, cocaine and marijuana.  Ackermann, was charged with 2 counts Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of Marijuana, Reckless Endangerment, & several other charges, The 17 year old female was arrested on similar charges, both were arraigned and were remanded to the Chenango County Jail. The investigation in continuing and more arrests are expected.

The DEC reminds residents that with warming temperatures and dry conditions, residential brush burning is prohibited March 16 through May 14 across New York State. Due to the lack of snow cover over much of the state and with rising temperatures forecasted for the coming weeks, conditions for wildfires could be heightened.

State Police arrested 33-year-old Carla Gagliano of Oneonta for Grand Larceny, and Offering a False Instrument for Filing, after an investigation by the State Department of Labor. The investigation determined that from March 2014 through March 2015, Gagliano had been receiving unemployment benefits while working at the Astrocom Electronics in Oneonta; the benefits were valued at about $10,500. Gagliano was arraigned in the City of Oneonta Court and was released. Her next court date is on April 19th.

Governor Cuomo today announced additional free tax filing assistance events across New York State. At these events, Tax Department volunteers will be available to help low and middle-income taxpayers file their taxes online for free ahead of the April 18 deadline. Since the tax-filing season began in January, the Tax Department has partnered with various organizations to provide free tax filing assistance to thousands of taxpayers at 54 locations throughout New York State. More than 83,000 handgun owners in upstate New York have re- certified their permits according to State Police. Gun owners in the upstate counties who received a handgun permit before January 2013 must re-certify by the end of January 2018

THE VILLAGE OF DELHI WITH RECEIVE A $100,000 GRANT FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO THE VILLAGE WATER DISTRICT AS PART OF THIS YEAR’S NEW YORK STATE BUDGET. THE VILLAGE IS PROPOSING TO EXTEND Its WATER SERVICE AREA to AN EXISTING MOTEL THAT IS CURRENTLY ON A PRIVATE WELL. THE FUNDING WILL ALSO HELP TO INSTALL WATER WELL AND REPLACE PIPING THAT SERVES A LOCAL HOSPITAL AMONG OTHER RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL PROPERTIES.

A bipartisan group of state lawmakers is urging Governor Cuomo to reconsider his plan to cut back visitation at the state’s Maximum-security prisons. The State Assembly Corrections Committee said that the Cuomo plan would punish innocent families who want to visit incarcerated loved ones, which could lead to more prison violence. Cuomo’s plan calls for cutting visitation from 7 to 3 days a week, which would save the state 2.6 million dollars a year.

Voters in a few school districts will be asked to approve budgets that exceed the state’s tax cap. The State Association of School Business Officials reported that 98% of the budgets submitted to the state so far would stay within the cap, 15 district want to over-ride it, which means that they will need a 60% super majority of for their budgets to pass. School budget votes will be held on May 16th this year.

Morris was charged following the investigation of a March 2nd crash in the town of Greene. Morris was arraigned in Coventry town court & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail pending future court action.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli announced that his office has over $14.5 Billion Dollars in unclaimed funds & he urged New Yorkers to check if they have funds due to them. Last year, DiNapoli’s office returned a record $452 Million Dollars to the rightful owners. About 2 million people a day visit the Comptroller’s website, where the listing of unclaimed funds can be found, at osc.state.ny.us.

THOMAS ACKERMANN was indicted for 4th & 5th degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, SAMUEL ACKERMANN was indicted on 2 counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree. Chenango county sheriff’s department arrested the 2 town of Otselic residents for allegedly stealing firearms taken from the town of Smyrna.

State Police from Sidney arrested 29-year-old Robert Utter of Otego for criminal obstruction of breathing, criminal contempt & 2nd degree harassment. The arrest resulted from an Otsego County 911 report of a dispute, the investigation determined that during a dispute Utter allegedly punched and choked his wife. This conduct violated a valid order of protection that was issued against him by the Oneonta Court. Utter was arraigned in Town of Franklin Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility in lieu of a $500.00 cash bail.

Charged were 22-year-old Samuel Ackermann of Norwich & 24 year old Thomas Ackerman of Otselic following an anonymous phone tip of stolen firearms taken from the town of Smyrna. Thomas Ackerman had previous felony convictions and could not legally posses a firearm. Both were already being held in the Chenango County Jail on separate charges, they were arrested, arraigned & were remanded back to the County Jail on cash bail pending future court action.

Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 50-year-old Alice Seibert of Earlville for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and a public health law violation. Seibert was charged following an investigation into a suspicious vehicle at a business in the Village of Smyrna, where she allegedly possessed medication that she did not have a prescription for & for not having it in its original container, she was processed and released & will appear in the Village of Smyrna Court at a later date.
