The 2 are accused of raping & killing 11-year-old Jacelyn O’Connor on July 30th in their Town of Norwich trailer; they will be arraigned on the Grand Jury Charges next week.

Fire investigators are trying to find the cause of a fire at a trailer at 1613 Colesville road early Wednesday morning. Investigators reported that no one was home when the fire broke out & no injuries were reported.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies responded Tuesday to a residence in the Town of Andes to investigate the reported theft of a handgun, Deputies arrested 24 year old William Effner of Delancey with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Grand Larceny, & Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. Effner was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000.00 cash bail pending further court action.

State Police arrested 58 year old Mack Oliver of Proctor, Arizona for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a B.A.C. of .19% and other traffic violations. Troopers responded to a Delaware County 911 report of a rollover accident in the Town of Stamford, Oliver struck a tree, coming to rest on his vehicle’s roof. Oliver was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Stamford Court on November 14, 2017.

Governor Cuomo announced the rollout of $25.2 million in federal funding to expand initiatives in New York’s ongoing effort to confront the opioid epidemic. The funding will be used to add and enhance treatment services in high-need counties throughout the state, with mobile treatment, the expansion of medication assisted treatment, & to support statewide prevention and recovery programs. Locally, The Addiction Center of Broome County will receive $1 million & Lourdes Hospital will receive $100,000.

State Police arrested 35 year old Matthew Watkins of Windsor for felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation & other traffic violations. A Trooper observed Watkins driving with an expired vehicle registration, in the Town of Kirkwood, Watkins had a revoked NewYork drivers license with 21 suspensions. Watkins was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court on September 19th.

Otsego County held its 20th annual Hazardous Waste Collection Day this past weekend. The satellite event in Unadilla served about 120 cars, the Meadows Office Complex collection served 522 cars dropping off hazardous materials. Pharmaceuticals and medications were collected free of charge again this year, with about 160 pounds collected for incineration.

The Sidney Rotary Club announced that Sidney Central School District Superintendent Bill Christensen will be presenting a program to Rotary Friday at St. Luke’s Church, regarding updates at the District. Governor Cuomo, along with the Governors of Delaware and Pennsylvania, announced that they voted in favor of a resolution put forward by the Delaware River basin Commission to issue draft regulations to permanently ban hydraulic fracturing in the Delaware River Basin. The DRBC vote was three to one with one abstention in passing the resolution that would prohibit Fracking in the Delaware River Basin.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 30-year-old Daniel Rodriguez of Bridgeport, Connecticut, for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. The arrest occurred during a traffic stop for a speeding on State Highway 17 in Hancock. Rodriguez was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail, and he will appear at the Village of Hancock Court at a later date.

The plans call for increasing prevention efforts by trying to limit prescriptions for the legal medications from Doctors, opioid education to prescribed patients & Establishing a Narcan kit registry. The plan also calls for increased penalties for existing & new laws dealing with the sale of controlled substances. This year’s state budget commitment of $166 million for heroin and opioid crisis, treatment, outpatient, and residential services, was increased by another $25 million follow the report from the Senate task Force.

U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer introduced a bill to expand Brady background checks. Schumer introduced Brady Bill 2 after more than 2,000 advocates flooded his office Monday morning with phone calls. Senator Schumer’s original Brady Bill has prevented more than 2.6 million gun sales to domestic abusers, violent felons, and people with dangerous mental illnesses; the new bill will expand background checks to all gun sales.

Charter Officials announced that the Time Warner aquiisition along with that of Bright House Networks, will both be combined under the “Spectrum” brand name.

The State DOT will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, May 24, regarding plans to rehabilitate a bridge on State Route 28 in the town of Milford. The meeting will be held at Milford Central School, at 7:00 PM. The bridge was built in 1985 and carries State Route 28 over State Route 7 and the Norfolk Southern Railroad Freight Main Line. Governor Cuomo announced $1 million in funding to expand access to addiction treatment services and family supports in the Southern Tier, and other locations to connect patients in Emergency Departments to appropriate treatment and support programs. In the Southern Tier, $250,000 was awarded to Addiction Center of Broome County in Binghamton, for those in need in Broome and neighboring Counties, starting June 1st. State Police at Oneonta arrested 37-year-old Wade Johnson of Schenevus, for Driving While Intoxicated with a B.A.C. result of .16%, twice the legal limit. The arrest occurred after a traffic stop for driving a motorcycle without a helmet on and for failing to keep right on County Route 9 in the Town of Davenport. Johnson was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Davenport Court on June 9th.
