Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 66 year old Dzemil Mujanovic of Meredith for Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Criminal Contempt. Deputies received information June 17th that Mujanovic was in possession of several long guns that he failed to surrender to Sheriffs Deputies as stipulated in a Family Court Order of protection. Deputies determined that Mujanovic was in possession 7 long guns, which were taken from his residence, he was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Meredith Town Court at a later date.

The Gus Macker Basketball Tournament will be held in Norwich again this summer, following the cancellation of the event the last 2 years due to the pandemic, Organizer Tom Revoir told WCDO News that they still need volunteers for a variety of tasks:

Broome County District Attorney Michael Korchak announced that 32 year old Kyle Finch of Binghamton, was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in state prison after failing to register as a sex offender for the second time. Finch failed to provide an address change to local law enforcement from 2019 through 2021, as required by state law, Finch was convicted in 2016, in Chenango County, of Disseminating Indecent Material to a Minor, he was designated as a Level 2 Sex Offender.

State Police reported that an 18-month-old died after she was hit by an SUV in the driveway of her home in Schuyler Monday morning. After arriving at the scene, state police determined that the mother was unloading groceries from her vehicle while her daughter was playing on an outdoor play set, when she went to move the vehicle, the toddler ran out in front of it, the mother rendered aid and called 911. The child was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. State police say the mother will not be charged.

Fireworks Over the Fairgrounds will be returning to the Chenango County Fairgrounds on July 4 after a two-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Organizer Terry Potter of Millennia Entertainment told WCDO News that they are happy to be getting this event going again:

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 24-year-old Sean Parkes of Oneonta on an active Bench Warrant for Failure to Appear in Court, following a Domestic Dispute Investigation. On June 24th, Deputies were dispatched to the Town of Davenport, to check the welfare of 2 individuals involved in an altercation, they arrested Parkes, he was transported to Oneonta Police Department for processing.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 1 car property damage motor vehicle accident on Calhoun Hill Road in the Town of Andes. The Driver, 52-year-old Sasha Catus of Bronx, exhibited signs of impairment, he was charged with DWI, Driving With a BAC of .08% or greater, failure to keep right, operating a motor vehicle while on a mobile phone, and operating a vehicle without wearing a seat-belt. Catus was released on appearance tickets for the Town of Andes Court on a later date.

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies will be holding a special watch party at Mirabito Stadium tonight as Max Scherzer makes his 2nd rehab start with Binghamton on the road against the Hartford Yard Goats at Dunkin’ Donuts Park. Fans will be able to watch on the Mirabito Stadium jumbo-tron, with gates opening at 6:00 PM and first pitch at 7:05 PM. State Police issued a statewide alert for 53 year old Norman Wilson, who is wanted for questioning in a robbery last month in Onondaga County. Wilson is wanted regarding a robbery on 4th in Brewerton, & he is expected to be charged with 1st degree Robbery, unlawful imprisonment, conspiracy & criminal possession of a weapon, Wilson is a white male, 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. The State Department of Health announced updated clinical guidance for use of the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines in children down to 6 months of age. Following the FDA authorization and CDC’S recommendation, Children 6 months to 4 years of age are eligible for 3 shots of the Pfizer vaccine, the initial 2 doses are administered 3 weeks apart, followed by a 3rd dose administered at least 8 weeks later, Children 6 months to 5 years of age are eligible for 2 shots of the Moderna vaccine, given 1 month apart.

Plans are going forward regarding the Norwich Downtown Boutique Hotel project on South Broad Street, Commerce Chenango President & CEO Kerri Green visited WCDO Today & gave an update regarding the timeline:

Green also said that a 6th meeting of the Norwich DRI Local Planning Committee will be held on Tuesday, at 3:00 PM in the Community Room of Commerce Chenango at 15 South Broad Street in Norwich, to continue the Committee’s discussion and review of potential projects for inclusion in Norwich’s Strategic Investment Plan. This meeting is open to all members of the public, with time reserved at the end of the meeting for public comment. The meeting will also be available on ZOOM.

The Oneonta Fire Department responded to a truck fire on Grand Street Wednesday Afternoon. The engine was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, the driver escaped without injury, there were no injuries among firefighters reported.

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection announced today that they are not in a position to shutdown the Delaware Aqueduct this fall as originally planned. The schedule is now planned for October 1, 2023 through May 31, 2024, the new timeline will ensure that the DEP completes and tests new system configurations and that outside communities are also prepared for the shutdown.

The Oneonta Police Department is seeking public help in the murder on May 30th of 24 year old Kaleb O’Neill of Oneonta. O’Neill was found with stab wounds in the alley near 6 Dietz Street, he was declared dead after being transported to A.O. Fox Hospital. Anyone with additional information on the investigation is asked to contact the Oneonta Police Department Detective Division at 607-432-1111.
