36 year old Justin Baker of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court Thursday, and was arraigned on a sealed indictment. The Indictment accuses Baker of possessing approximately $6,000.00 in fentanyl and methamphetamine with the intent to sell in the Village of Sidney on September 11th. Baker pleaded not guilty to the indictment & he was released from custody & was placed under the supervision of the Delaware County Probation Department, he could face up to 9 years in state prison if convicted on the top count.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced that they are receiving many items used in this year’s World Series, won for the 1st time by the Texas Rangers. Artifacts donated by the Rangers include a Cap worn by manager Bruce Bochy; a Batting helmet worn by World Series MVP Corey Seager, & the glove worn by Pitcher Josh Sborz, & the Bat used by Adolis García in Game 1 when he hit the game-winning home run, Items donated by the Arizona Diamondbacks will include a Bat used by Ketel Marte when he extended his postseason hitting streak to a record 20 games. The items will be featured in the Autumn Glory exhibit, which will be on display through the 2024 Postseason at the hall of Fame in Cooperstown

Attorney General James joined a coalition of 50 attorneys general to form a nationwide, bipartisan Anti-Robocall Litigation Taskforce to investigate and take legal action against companies responsible for enabling a majority of foreign robocalls into the United States. Dunkin’ Donuts announced that their annual Go for the Gold initiative, held at more than a dozen locations in the Southern Tier last Thursday, raised $51,832 for Special Olympics New York. During the event, Special Olympics New York athletes and coaches were joined by local law enforcement partners to collect donations at participating Dunkin’ Donuts locations, the Sidney location collected over $1900 Thursday.

The CDC reports that New York has the majority of confirmed monkeypox cases in the United States, with 1,345 cases, out of the more than 5,100 cases in the country. The next highest is California, which reported 799 cases of the virus.

Federal authorities are investigating a single engine plane crash on Saturday, afternoon in Palantine in Montgomery County. The State Police initial investigation determined that a mechanical failure occurred, the pilot sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was air lifted to Albany Medical Center by LifeNet. No other injuries were reported. The investigation into the accident is continuing.

“Galumpha: The Beethoven Project” comes to Norwich later this month as Part of the Binghamton Philharmonic’s yearlong celebration of Beethoven’s 250th Birthday.  Galumpha President & Director Andy Horowitz explained to WCDO News how it all came about:

Special Olympics New York and Glens Falls officials today announced the return of State Fall Games, which is expected to draw nearly 1,300 athletes, coaches, and families from throughout the state to Glens Falls this October to compete in seven fall sports: bocce, cycling, golf, equestrian, soccer, softball, and cross-country running.  State Fall Games was eliminated from the Special Olympics New York budget five years ago due to financial constraints,  The return of State Fall Games was announced today at a press conference at City Hall. The Games will be held Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24 at sporting venues throughout the Glens Falls and Queensbury area.

Volunteers for the Susquehanna Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will host a Brooks’ BBQ Chicken Dinner today at Christ Episcopal Church, with proceeds going to the shelter. The dinner will be part of Cooperstown Winter Carnival 2020, will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the church Parish Hall at 69 Fair Street.
