Delaware County District Attorney’s Office announced that 45 year old Luke Lupo of Walton appeared in Delaware County Court Monday and pleaded guilty to 3rd degree Burglary. Lupo admitted that in April of 2022, he entered a building owned by Herman’s Trailer Sales and Service in Walton, and stole property, he will be sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision and ordered to pay restitution to the victim. Sentencing was scheduled for January 16, 2024.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced nearly $16 million is being awarded through Round 7 of the Climate Resilient Farming Grant Program to help 116 farms address the impacts of climate change. The selected projects will reduce greenhouse gases by an estimated 64,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year, the equivalent of eliminating over 14,000 cars from the road for 1 year, In the Southern Tier, $1.8 Million Dollars will be split up among 11 farms.

22 year old Dakota Mann of Walton pleaded guilty to Criminal Contempt in Delaware County Court Monday. Mann admitted that he was aware of an order of protection prohibiting him from having contact with the protected party, he had contact with the victim and “engaged in a domestic dispute.” he will be sentenced to 1 year in the Delaware County Correction Facility upon sentencing on November 27th.

The Chenango County Health Department is hosting a COVID-19 vaccine clinic for uninsured and under-insured individuals through the Bridge Access Program. This COVID-19 vaccine clinic is for 18 years of age and older, it will be held November 16th &17th, from 9-11 am and 1-3 pm at 5 Court Street Norwich. Appointments can be made at 607-337-1660.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that more than $57 million has been awarded to support 238 projects across New York State through the Regional Economic Development Council initiative. Sportsfield Specialties will receive a $500,000 Grant & a $1.5 Million Excelsior Jobs Tax Credit, to expand its manufacturing operations in Delhi, by utilizing vacant property adjacent to its existing site. The proposed project will include a 60,000 square-foot manufacturing plant expansion with modern equipment, a new office complex, mechanical shop and storage, the Total Project Cost will be $27.5 Million.

Deputies responded to a domestic dispute at the Buena Vista Motel in Delhi, the victim claimed that she escaped after being held captive & was beaten, as Deputies were responding to her 911, the assailant chased her down and allegedly punched, kicked & dragged the woman back to the motel room & beat her with a glass bottle causing serious physical injuries. The victim was transported to O’Connor Hospital and was transferred to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City for further treatment. Abrams was arraigned in Delhi Town Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bail bond.

Oneonta police arrested 48-year-old Chauncey Couse of Oneonta for criminal possession of a controlled substance Friday, for allegedly possessing Heroin. Couse was charged following the execution of a search warrant at his residence on Spruce Street, he was being held pending action in Oneonta City Court.

State Senator Jim Seward announced 2 Empire State Development Corporation grants for projects in Delaware County. An $850,000 grant will assist Green Lumber Company in Davenport for electrical infrastructure improvements, and a $900,000 grant for Sportsfield Specialties in Delhi for expansion and equiipem4nt purchases. The grants are expected to retain and create about 145 jobs.

The last 2 defendants in the Word of Life church beatings case were sentenced to prison time today in Oneida County Court. 9 defendants were accused in the “counseling session” beating at the church in October 2015 that killed 19-year-old Lucas Leonard and severely injured his brother, 17-year-old Christopher Leonard. The boys’ mother, Deborah Leonard, was sentenced to 5 years in state prison, the father, Bruce Leonard was sentenced to 10 years in state prison.

Public health officials, elected leaders, medical experts and patient advocates will gather this week for New York’s first-ever Hepatitis C summit. The gathering on Tuesday in Albany is meant to discuss the response to the chronic illness which afflicts more than 200,000 people in the state. Panel discussions will discuss prevention, treatment and suggestions for policy makers looking to help eliminate the disease. Hepatitis C is spread through contact with contaminated blood. The ongoing heroin and opioid epidemic has emerged as a new contributor to the spread of the disease.

Kimble was held at the City of Oneonta Police Department pending arraignment in the City of Oneonta Court.

The Oneonta Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of 142 Chestnut Street Thursday afternoon, for a motor vehicle accident involving a school bus and 2 other vehicles. Police reported that an Oneonta City School bus with 22 children on board was struck from behind by a sedan that had been struck from behind by a pickup truck, at around 3:40 PM Thursday. The School bus had been stopped with its flashing lights activated when the accident occurred. No injuries were reported, another bus completed the transportation of the children, the investigation is continuing and tickets are pending.

Governor Cuomo reminded out-of-state and Canadian snowmobile enthusiasts that this weekend is New York’s annual Free Snowmobiling Weekend. State registration fees will be waived for properly registered and insured out-of-state snowmobilers, Snowmobile registration costs $100, but decreases to $45 if the snowmobiler is a member of a local snowmobile club. This fee will be waived for out-of-state and Canadian snowmobilers during the promotional weekend, provided they are properly registered and insured in another state or Canada.

For the 3rd time in the past 4 NFL seasons, football goal posts manufactured by Sportsfield Specialties in Delhi, will make an appearance framing the playing field at the Super Bowl. This year’s game will be hosted at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas on Sunday. Company officials reported that their goal posts were also used at MetLife Stadium in 2014 when the Seattle beat Denver & again in 2015 when the New England beat Seattle at University of Phoenix Stadium & also in 2008, when Sportsfield’s goal posts were 1st used in a Super Bowl as the New York Giants upset the New England Patriots.


State Police arrested 37-year-old Brian Strube of Norwich, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. Strube stopped by Police for a brake light that was not working, after smelling marijuana inside the vehicle a search was conducted, Strube was found to unlawfully possess about 2 grams of marijuana and an illegal dagger, he was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

The Chenango County IDA announced significant progress in its Rail Revitalization project, which aims to restore service to the 45 ½ miles of the Utica Mainline track between the Madison and Broome County lines. From September 2015 to September 2016, New York State’s private sector job count climbed by 115,100, or 1.5 percent, according to preliminary figures released today by the New York State Department of Labor. In September 2016, the state’s private sector job count fell by 4,400. Since the beginning of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s administration, New York State’s economy has added 839,500 private sector jobs and experienced employment growth in 58 of the past 69 months. In September 2016, the statewide unemployment rate increased from 4.8% to 5.0%, which was equal to the comparable U.S. unemployment rate of 5.0%.

Governor Cuomo announced $1 million in funding is available to assist new and early-stage farmers through the State New Farmers Grant Fund. The Fund will provide grants of up to $50,000 to assist with up to 50% of eligible project costs, with the remaining 50% matched by the recipient. This year, the program has eliminated the 150 acres or fewer requirements and is now accepting farm applicants of all sizes. The application and guidelines are available online at http://esd.ny.gov. The deadline for submission is January 27th.

Governor Cuomo announced that the Department of Financial Services has issued guidance to health insurers outlining new insurance coverage requirements for substance abuse treatment. Under the new law, health insurers will be required to cover medication, including naloxone, for detoxification or maintenance treatment of substance use disorders under large group policies. Health insurers will also be required to provide coverage without preauthorization for inpatient substance abuse treatment in facilities that participate in their networks and are certified by the State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.

Chenango County 911 Center received a call at Thursday at 7:48 PM from 305 Blanding Road in the Town of Sherburne, of an ATV accident involving a 14-year-old male. The Sheriff’s Office responded along with the Sherburne Fire Department, Norwich Fire Department and Cooperstown Medical Transport ambulances to find the ATV operator had been pinned face down under the overturned ATV, after apparently striking a piece of farm equipment & going over an embankment. The unidentified operator from Madison as taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Governor Cuomo today announced more than $23 million in savings over a two-year period for farmers across the state as a result of the Agricultural Land Assessment Cap. First signed into law by the Governor in 2013, the cap prevents agricultural assessments from being increased by more than two percent per year. The previous cap was set at 10 percent. Regional Savings in the Southern Tier is about $2.1 million dollars.

Governor Cuomo today announced that over $10 million has been returned to more than 17,000 victims of wage theft during the first three months of 2016. This amount surpasses last year’s first quarter total of $9 million and places the state on track to exceed the $31.5 million in stolen wages recovered in 2015 – the highest ever. In the southern tier, over $74,000 was recovered for 149 workers.

A former Delaware County Sheriff sergeant was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury Thursday for attempting to murder. Theodore Tiska of Masonville was indicted for second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault for attempting to intentionally cause the death of his wife on April 18 in the town of Masonville. The Unadilla Valley Central School District saved more than $300,000 in special education costs over a two-year period, according to an audit issued today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. After the DCMO BOCES discontinued 2 special education service classes housed in Unadilla Valley schools, the district began operating these classes to provide special education services using district staff, the district implemented a third special education class, started accepting students from outside the district, and expanded its special education programs to include related services such as occupational and speech therapies.
