36 year old Justin Baker of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court Monday and pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Baker admitted that he had possessed methamphetamine with the intent to sell in the Village of Sidney. Judge Hubbard ordered the Delaware County Probation Department to conduct a pre-sentencing report, it is expected that Baker will be sentenced to 2 1/2 years in state prison to be followed by one year of post release supervision, he will likely be enrolled in the Lakeview Rehabilitation Program as part of his state prison sentence.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 53 year old Donald Lane of Portlandville for being in violation of the State Sex Offender Registry. Lane was charged with Sex Offender Failure to Update Change of Address, following an investigation that revealed that Lane relocated away from his residence in excess of the 10 day grace period required for sex offenders to update an address change. Lane was located by the Canajoharie Police Department and was turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on an unrelated matter. On March 11th 2024, the defendant was formally charged with the above charges and issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

Chenango County Health Department reported that a raccoon located in the Town of Preston tested positive for Rabies by the State’s Wadsworth Laboratory. Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28 year old Kenneth Dillman of Stamford for Aggravated Unlicensed Operator of a Motor Vehicle and Operation of a Motor Vehicle with an Ignition Interlock device following a traffic stop in the Town of Harpersfield. Deputies observed Dillmann operating a motor vehicle, they knew that Dillmann had 22 suspensions on his revoked license, A traffic stop was conducted, Dillmann was charged & was issued traffic tickets and Appearance Tickets for Town of Harpersfield Court at a later date.

State Comptroller’s Office announced that 2 Otsego County area businessmen have been indicted for a $1 million Medicaid transportation fraud scheme. 46-year-old Philip Mtui and 47-year-old Mbaga Kaiza were partners in Phinaliz Communications, they allegedly sought and received payments for rides that did not actually happen and billed multiple times for rides that did occur. This resulted in $1 million being stolen from Medicaid, they were charged with 1st Degree Grand Larceny & they face court action on May 6.

46 year old John Jaromack Jr, formerly of Franklin, appeared in Delaware County Court Monday, he was sentenced to a total of 10 years in State Prison to be followed by 10 years of post-release supervision. Jaromack pleaded guilty to 2 counts of Criminal Sexual Act in August in Delaware County Court, he admitted to sexually abusing a minor child. The court also issued orders of protection in favor of the two children for the next 13 years. The defendant will be mandated to register as a sex offender upon being released from prison.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced today that millions in federal funding will be available for New Yorkers through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program this winter:

The money will help thousands of households across the state afford their heating bills and make cost-effective home energy repairs this winter. She is also calling for additional funding for LIHEAP to make sure that as many qualifying families as possible can get the assistance they need throughout the coming months.

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office reported that a Binghamton man who led police agencies on a manhunt, was taken into custody today. Christopher Borges of Binghamton led police on a manhunt covering several hours, he was located and taken into custody around 10:07 am. on Deerfield Lane in the Town of Caroline without incident. Charges against Borges include kidnapping, robbery and criminal contempt.

52 year old Shelly Genung of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court Tuesday and pleaded guilty to 1 count of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a child in the vehicle. Genung admitted that she was operating the motor vehicle on a public highway in the Village of Sidney, while she was intoxicated by alcohol, with a 6-year-old child in the vehicle, she will be sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision and required to comply with any substance abuse treatment recommendations & successfully complete the Impaired Driving Program and attend a Victim Impact Panel, her license will be revoked, and she will be required to install an ignition interlock device in any vehicle she owns or operates.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45 year old Danielle Ashdown of Binghamton during the intake process at the Broome County Correctional Facility. On October 6th, Ashdown was arrested by Binghamton Police for a conditional discharge. A routine search uncovered 2 clear bags hidden on her person, containing methamphetamine and fentanyl, they also recovered 2 other substances. Ashdown was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & 3 Counts of Promoting Prison Contraband, she was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.

Hartwick College officials announced that they are hosting 2 Candidate Forums prior to Election Day. The Hartwick Institute of Public Service announced that the forum for today features candidates running for election in Otsego County, on Wednesday, November 1, the institute will host candidates running for election in the City of Oneonta. The Otsego County Department of Health reports that a cat tested positive for rabies in the Village of Cherry Valley on October 24, 2023. This cat belonged to a feral cat colony on Montgomery Street in the Village of Cherry Valley. The chance of rabies in other cats in the colony is very high, anyone who may have had contact with the cats should call the Health Department at 607-547-4230

31 year old Thomas Harris of Unadilla, pleaded guilty to 4th degree Arson, on June 4, 2022, State Police responded to reports of a structure fire in the Town of Sidney. Upon arrival, the Troopers discovered several broken and intact beer bottles, some of which contained gasoline, a victim stated that Harris threw the bottles, starting the fire. The Bottles were tested, the results confirmed the presence of Harris’ DNA on the bottles. Harris will be sentenced to five years of felony probation supervision when sentenced at a later date.

Governor Kathy Hochul at the Great New York State Fair today signed an Executive Order directing State agencies to increase the percentage of food sourced from New York farmers and producers to 30 percent of their total purchases within five years. The Governor also signed legislation to bring together students at the New York State Fair to develop innovative agricultural technologies as well as legislation to support smaller and newer fairs across the state while promoting youth involvement in agriculture and domestic arts.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 23 year old Nicholas Wayman of Bainbridge, after they responded to a Domestic Report in the Town of Delhi at the Victims place of work. The investigation revealed that Wayman had been involved in a Domestic Dispute while in a moving vehicle, having unwanted physical contact with the victim while in the presence of a child within the vehicle, the victim possessed an order of protection against him. Wayman was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Contempt, Harassment & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and other related violation, he was arraigned in the Town of Walton Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Walton Court on a later date to answer the charges.

Delaware County District Attorney’s Office announced that 31 year old Derek Wignall of Hancock, pleaded guilty to Criminal Contempt. Wignall violated an Order of Protection by contacting the protected party while incarcerated on an unrelated matter, he was placed back into custody upon discovery of the violation of the Order of Protection. Judge Rosa ordered a pre-sentence investigation to be undertaken by the Delaware County Probation Department. If found to be appropriate, Wignall will be placed on probation supervision for a five-year term.

Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call placed at a Fast Trac gas station in the Town of Fenton from a victim reporting that she had been assaulted and held hostage on Ballyhack Road in the Town of Fenton before escaping. 39 year old Steven Fish of Fenton is accused of threatening the victim with a machete, sexually and physically assaulting the victim, who was treated at a local hospital. Fish was charged with 1st Degree Rape, Criminal Sexual Act by Forcible Compulsion, Unlawful Imprisonment & Menacing, he was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.

35 year old Antonio Felice of Utica appeared in Delhi Town Court and entered guilty pleas to Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs & Bail Jumping. Felice was apprehended in Utica, he was arrested on a warrant & was transported to the Delaware County Jail, he was sentenced to a jail term to be followed by a year of conditional discharge & his license was revoked.

Binghamton Police Department announced the names of the couple who were found after a fire was extinguished at 56 Howard Avenue. The investigation revealed that 64-year-old Patrick Angeline shot his wife, 62 year old Wanda Angeline, multiple times before starting the fire. He later shot himself inside of the home. The investigation is continuing, Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Binghamton Police Detective Bureau at (607) 772-7080.
