The Broome County District Attorney’s office announced that 68-year-old Alan Geller of Binghamton was found guilty of Forcible Touching. Geller was a Physician’s Assistant who was accused of groping a women patient inappropriately while conducting a physical examination in December of 2021. Geller faces up to 1 year in jail at sentencing.

The Chenango SPCA announced that the Bissell Empty the Shelters adoption special is back this year until December 11th. State Police arrested 73 year old Brooks Anderson of Albany for Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle. Anderson was observed traveling at a high rate of speed by a trooper on I-88 in Worcester, the trooper attempted a traffic stop but Anderson fled into the town of Oneonta, where he was boxed in by Police vehicles and then refused to exit the vehicle. Anderson was ultimately taken into custody and was processed, he will appear in the Town of Worcester Town Court on December 20th.

The new Oneonta VA Clinic at Foxcare opens today, with full service beginning tomorrow, Peter Potter of the Albany VA clinic told WCDO News that a Doctor will be there on an interim basis until a permanent Doctor is named:

The VA clinic replaces the Bainbridge VA clinic which had experienced a 76% decline in visitations in recent years.

State Police and local law enforcement agencies issued a record 3,062 tickets from April 1 to November 17 of this year as part of Operation Hardhat. Last year, Police issued 2,336 tickets, this year’s tickets, included over 1200 were for speeding, 426 for using a cell phone while driving, 124 were for violating the Move Over Law, 229 tickets were issued in the Southern Tier.

State Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett will resign from the position effective January 1st. Dr. Bassett announced that she will be returning to the Harvard Chan School of Public Health, which will require her to move to Massachusetts, a new Health Commissioner will be chosen shortly.

Vestal Police have arrested an unidentified 17 year old for 2nd degree Manslaughter, Criminal possession of a forged instrument & 3 counts of reckless endangerment, for being the driver of a vehicle that crashed on November 24th. 18 year old Kadin Abdullah was pronounced dead at the scene of that accident.

The laws close Loopholes that were exposed by the Buffalo Supermarket shooting, bars the purchase of Semiautomatic Rifles by anyone Under 21 by Requiring a License, Prohibits the purchase of Body Armor with Exception of Those in Specified Professions, Requires Microstamping of New Semiautomatic Pistols; Eliminates Grandfathering of High-Capacity Feeding Devices; Requires Social Media Companies to Improve Response to and Reporting of Hateful Content .

State Assembly & Senate ended their 2022 sessions Saturday to take up remaining bills. Lawmakers passed the Green CHIPS bill, which would incentivize semiconductor manufacturers to build new factories in New York State and Alyssa’s law, which would require school district safety teams to consider the installation of a panic alarm system to silently alert law enforcement in the event of a life threatening or emergency situation. Alyssa’s Law now heads to the governor’s desk.

Binghamton Police are investigating the report of a body found in a creek by a passerby Thursday Morning near Bayless Avenue. 64 year old Debra Scott of Johnson City was found in the creek by the town & city Binghamton lines, An autopsy was conducted and the cause of death has not yet been determined.

State Police are reminding motorists to follow New York’s “Move Over Law” Following an accident on I-81 Sunday. Police said that a Trooper had pulled over to the side of the highway to remove debris in the road, when the patrol car was hit from behind. There were no injuries, the Patrol vehicle was destroyed.

A 6th meeting of the Norwich Downtown Revitalization Initiative Local Planning Committee will be held on Tuesday, June 14th at 3:00 PM in person in the Community Room of Commerce Chenango at 15 South Broad Street, Norwich. The purpose of this meeting is to continue the committee’s discussion and review of potential projects for inclusion in Norwich’s Strategic Investment Plan. Governor Hochul reported that the Statewide 7-Day Average COVID 19 Case Rate Has Dropped 58% since the recent high levels, hospital Admissions were Down 20% & 25 Counties are now Considered “Low” on the CDC Community Spread Map. Over 128,000 were tested Saturday, with over 7800 Positive, for a positivity rate down to 5.6%, Patient Hospitalization decreased to 2,332, New deaths reported by healthcare facilities was 22.

State Health Commissioner Dr. Mary T. Bassett announced that the adult cigarette smoking rate in New York State achieved a new low of 12% in 2020, lower than the U.S. average of 15.5 percent. Among young adults, ages 18 to 24, the smoking rate is even lower, at 5.5%.
