Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested Steven Baker of Sidney for failure to register with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office for the Delaware County Local Law Animal Abuser Registry. Deputies were made aware that Baker had failed to register with the Sheriff’s Office within 5 days of his release from incarceration as mandated in the County Law, Deputies located and arrested Baker Monday for 1 count of violating Local Law Number 15 of 2021, he was transported to the Village of Sidney Police Department where he was processed and released on an appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Publicis is one of the world’s largest healthcare advertising companies and developed predatory and deceptive marketing strategies for Purdue Pharma to increase prescriptions and sales of opioids such as OxyContin, ultimately fueling the opioid epidemic. New York will receive $19,176,750 as a result of the agreement, which will be used to fund opioid abatement, treatment, and prevention.

NYSEG Crews responded to power outages around Chenango County this morning, with over 4700 customers without power, the majority of those were in the City & Town of Norwich, and the issue was attributed to a substation, the Norwich City School District was closed today.

4 people were injured yesterday when a vehicle crashed into the White Rose day Spa on the Vestal Road Wednesday afternoon. 4 people were taken to area hospitals after the crash with non-life threatening injuries, the vehicle was a courtesy rental from Miller Honda nearby, the investigation is continuing.

A.M. NEWS THURSDAY 2-1-24

Matthew Caletka of Binghamton, pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, on April 19, 2023, The Broome County Special Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at 9 Sherwood Avenue in Binghamton. Caletka was found to be in possession of over 2 ounces of Methamphetamine, he admitted to possession with the intent to sell. Caletka will be sentenced to 3.5 years in State Prison and 2 years post-release supervision when sentenced on April 26th. .

Cortland County Deputies were attempting service at 171 Homer Avenue in the City of Cortland, Monday, they were confronted at the door by a male subject with gun, and the Cortland City Police Department and State Police responded to assist. Multiple unsuccessful attempts were made to deescalate the situation and the subject fired upon the Officers. Gunfire was exchanged within the residence and the subject was struck, he was transported to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where he currently remains in stable condition. No Officers were hurt and the State Police have assumed control of the investigation.

41 year old Steven Baker of Sidney pleaded guilty to 1 count of Animal Cruelty. On May 3, Sidney Police responded to a complaint of animal abuse at 40 River Street in the Village of Sidney, the officer observed an 8-month-old puppy with a gash on its left hind leg. The puppy was treated, Baker admitted that he became upset with the dog and threw a knife at it causing the gash in its hind leg. Baker appeared in Sidney Court today & pleaded guilty to Animal Cruelty, he will be sentenced to 1 year of in the Delaware County Correctional Facility, he will be required to register as on the Animal Abuser Registry, he will be prohibited from owning, possessing, residing with, or having contact with any companion animal. Baker was remanded to the Delaware County jail pending sentencing.

The State DEC has issued a Air Quality Health Advisory for Fine Particulates until midnight tonight, across most of the state, due to wildfire burning in Quebec. The State Health Department reported that short-term health effects include irritation to the eyes, nose, and throat, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, and shortness of breath. The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that charges or rape & sexual abuse charges have been dropped against Leor Kweller. Kweller is the brother of one of the former owners of The Colonial restaurant in downtown Binghamton, he was charged with 3rd degree rape, the Broome County Court decision could be appealed, charges against the other 2, charges against Yaron Kweller and Jordan Rindgen are still pending.

Oneonta City Police are investigating the death of a man found in a Fox Hospital Bathroom on May 31st. The identity of the deceased has not been announced, Fox Hospital officials said that the man was not a patient, Emergency personnel attempted to revive the man unsuccessfully. The results of an autopsy performed Monday in Binghamton have not been released, foul play is not suspected.

Governor Cuomo unveiled his Green Technology proposals in his 3rd State of The State Address today, outlining a plan to get the state away from fossil fuels & into sustainable renewable energies, by using the SUNY SYSTEM & Training workers for the next technologies:

Governor Cuomo announced that Following new guidance from the CDC, New York is now including individuals age 65 and up as eligible to schedule appointments to receive the vaccine. Immunocompromised New Yorkers are also eligible to receive the vaccine. Eligible people can find vaccination locations near them through New York’s “Am I Eligible” tool. The eligibility change brings the number of eligible New Yorkers to at least 7 million people, but the state is still only receiving 300,000 doses per week from the federal government of the COVID Vaccine.

Chenango County Public reported 2 more COVID 19 deaths today, and 38 new cases of the virus. The County has 211 active cases, 519 in quarantine & 20 hospitalized, out of 1558 total cases.

The State Health Department identified 8 more cases of the UK Variant of COVID 19 in New York State, there are now 12 cases in New York and 80 cases in the U.S. The UK variant is more contagious than other variants, although it is not believed to be more deadly, New Yorkers are asked to continue to exercise caution.

Governor Cuomo updated New Yorkers on the state’s progress during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Total Vaccine Doses Administered is 645,037, the state tested 196,671 with 15,214 testing Positive, which was 7.73% of all tested. Patient Hospitalization increased to 8,926, the Number in an ICU increased to 1,492 & 909 are on ventilators. there were 164 deaths Tuesday.

Delaware County Public Health announced that an 18th person has died of Covid-19 related complications. The County reported 13 new cases Tuesday, with 168 active cases, 6 hospitalized & 329 quarantined.

State Police have released additional information regarding Sunday Nights chase from Sidney to Masonville. The driver of the vehicle was 38 year old Steven Baker of Sidney, he has been charged with Reckless Endangerment, Criminal Mischief, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Baker was released from A.O Fox Hospital and arraigned virtually. He was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail. Baker’s female passenger has been released from the hospital and has not been charged at this time, the investigation continues.

State Trooper Mitchell Reed was dispatched on the morning of January 7th to the report of a man working for a tree removal service in Margaretville when his leg got caught in a wood chipper. Two others helped the man free his leg then applying a belt to his leg, Trooper Reed arrived on scene he used his division issued tourniquet to slow the bleeding before Margaretville EMS arrived. The man was transported to Margaretville Hospital then later transferred to Albany Medical for treatment.
