Delaware County District Attorney’s Office announced that 37 year old Randy Condon of Sidney was arraigned on a 3 count indictment in Delaware County Court. Condon was charged with 3rd & 4th Degree Grand Larceny, & 2nd degree Burglary for breaking into a Masonville Residence & stole rifles and shotguns, & over 10,000 rounds of ammunition, worth over $3,000 Dollars. Condon pleaded not guilty at the arraignment, he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail.

49 year old Richard Foster of Middletown appeared in Delaware County Court & entered a guilty plea to Attempted Assault, Foster was originally charged with a series of crimes stemming from a domestic assault that took place on March 14th. Foster was observed obstructing traffic on State Highway 28, Officers apprehended him after he struck a woman multiple times and attempted to steal prescription pills. Foster was sentenced to one year in jail, an Order of Protection was issued for the victim for a period of 2 years.

FEMA Officials announced that the Oxford Fire Department will receive over $95,000 in the latest round of firefighter safety grants. The Grant will allow the Oxford Fire Department to increase training, purchase equipment and protective gear & increase recruitment efforts.

The State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for July 2023. The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held constant at 3.9% in July, locally, Chenango County had 2.9% unemployment, Delaware County 3.7% & Otsego County 3.3% in July.

The Annual Great New York State Fair opens tomorrow at the Fairgrounds in Syracuse. The fair runs through September 4th, the full schedule can be found at nysfair.ny.gov.

A.M. NEWS TUESDAY 8-22-23

32 year old Steven Barrows of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court for violating several terms of his probation, he was being supervised on a five-year term as a result of a conviction for Burglary in Otsego County Court. Barrows was arraigned and was declared delinquent and a probation violator, he was sentenced to serve 2 to 6 years in jail, he was also ordered to pay fines, fees and surcharges imposed by the court.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop August 12th in the Town of Colchester, Deputies identified 27 year old Brooke Klinegardner as a passenger, Deputies learned that Klinegardner had an active Arrest Warrant issued by the Delaware County Family Court, Klinegardner was arrested on the Arrest Warrant and was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail and is to appear in the next session of Delaware County Family Court.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31 year old Steven Barrows of Sidney on burglary & Grand Larceny charges, after stopping a suspected stolen vehicle from the Town of Otego. Barrows was located driving the vehicle in the Town of Oneonta, he was taken into custody at the Super 8 Motel by Deputies and State Troopers, Barrows was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are expected.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29-year-old Andrew Kreger of Oneonta, after Deputies responded to a shoplifting complaint at the Hannaford Grocery Store in Oneonta. Kreger is accused of leaving the store with $848.35 worth of merchandise without paying, he was also found to be in possession of a small quantity of LSD. Kreger was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance, he was processed and released on an appearance ticket pending future court action.

Former Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin will have his court date next January, he is accused of using his political clout to get campaign contributions. Benjamin resigned as lieutenant governor after pleading not guilty on the day of his arrest, he has been replaced by local Congressman Antonio Delgado.

State Police arrested 27 year old Amanda-Lynn Pedlar of Cooperstown, for Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, after Troopers were dispatched to the Oneonta Walmart after employees reported that Pedlar attempted to use a counterfeit $100 bill mixed in with actual currency. Pedlar was located at the Town House Inn and arrested, she was processed and issued an appearance ticket to the Oneonta Town Court on May 17th.

The Norwich Downtown Revitalization Initiative Local Planning Committee will be holding a meeting today from 3:30-5:30 PM in the Norwich High School Cafeteria, they will be reviewing proposed DRI projects to be potentially included in Norwich’s Strategic Investment Plan. The meeting is open to the public, with time reserved at the end for public comment. A public workshop will also be held at 6:30 PM in the Norwich High School Cafeteria, where the public is invited to learn about the proposed projects being considered for DRI funding and to participate in a session to provide feedback.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested of 31 year old Lisa Rosengrant of Hancock for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle. On May 3rd on State Highway 10 in the Town of Tompkins, Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, a traffic stop was conducted and it was learned that Rosengrant’s operating privileges were suspended. Rosengrant was also issued Tickets for Operating without a license and Speeding, she was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Tompkins Court at a later date.

On May 4th, Delaware County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to a reported domestic dispute, they arrested 57-year-old Brett Shepler of Harpersfield, for allegedly obstructing the breathing of the victim and damaging property. Deputies arrested and charged Shepler Friday with Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Reckless Endangerment and Criminal Mischief, he was arraigned in the Town of Harpersfield Court and released on his own recognizance & he was ordered to return at a later date.

Schenevus fire department responded to a reported brush fire shortly after 11:30 Wednesday Morning, near the intersection of State Highway 7 & Stone House Road in the Town of Maryland. Dry conditions, wind and steep terrain were contributing factors while firefighters from 18 different departments fought the blaze. An additional 8 departments were on standby. The Fire was under control at approximately 5:00 PM. Otsego County EMS reminds area residents that the statewide burn ban through May 14.

Watson is accused of breaking the victim’s car window during the dispute, he was arraigned in the town of Guilford Court where he was remanded to the Chenango County Jail with no bail pending court action on September 11th, and an order of protection was also issued to the victim.

State Senator Jim Seward announced a $1 million state grant to help fund major renovations and improvements at historic Damaschke Field in Oneonta. The $1 million capital grant secured through the State and Municipal Facilities Program will be used to demolish the park’s grandstand and rehabilitate the space to provide a family-friendly recreational area.

3 people were arrested in connection with a series of area burglaries.  State Police arrested 27 year old Steven Barrows of Sidney and 27 year old Zackery England of Sidney for Burglary and Conspiracy and 30 year old Nicole Bell of Oneonta for False Personation, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Unlawfully Possessing a Noxious Material & as a fugitive from justice from the state of Georgia. An investigation revealed that Barrows and England allegedly attempted to break into the property in Guilford, burglarized a seasonal home in Oxford and a seasonal garage in Guilford. Bell originally provided a false name during the arrest of all 3, she was found to be in possession of 2 bb guns, methamphetamine, heroin and brass knuckles. Barrows and England were arraigned in the town of Oxford Court where Barrows was remanded with no bail to the Chenango County Jail and England was remanded on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 property bond. Bell was arraigned in the town of Unadilla Court and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on no bail.  Additional charges are also expected.

State Police arrested 26 year old Zachary Thomas of Deposit for Grand Larceny and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. A trooper was contacted by the administrator of an estate of a man who recently passed away. The administrator told the trooper a $5,000 tractor was stolen from the property, Thomas allegedly took the tractor and hid it behind a barn in Bainbridge. Thomas was arrested and arraigned in the town of Coventry Court where he was released on his own recognizance. His next appearance in court is September 26th.
