State Police arrested 18-year-old Eric Green in Albany; he was taken into custody without incident.  Green was charged with 1st degree Aggravated assault on a police officer, and 1st degree Robbery he was arraigned this morning on the original charges, the investigation is continuing & more charges are anticipated.  Green is accused of stabbing Trooper Rodney Smith in the neck at the Empire State Plaza Sunday, after asking for directions.

The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 24-year-old Dale Thompson on an active Bench Warrant issued out of the Village of Sherburne Court for failure to pay fines.  Thompson was previously charged for with criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child, and 2nd degree harassment, he was arraigned and was released on his own recognizance after paying his fines.

Lawmakers continue to put together a state budget with a little more than 3 ½ weeks to go before the annual deadline.  Area assemblyman Cliff Crouch comments:

The Otsego County Planning Department will be holding a Local Government Training Workshop this afternoon at 5:30 until 8:45 PM at the Otsego County Meadows Office Complex in Cooperstown.  The workshop will include sessions on Storm water Regulation for Local Review Boards and Article 10 of Public Service Law for Siting of Electricity Generating Facilities. State Police at Sidney arrested 26-year-old Gregory Flanagan of Sidney for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on State Route 7 in Unadilla; Flanagan was issued an Appearance Ticket for Town of Unadilla Court on March 11th.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22-year-old Talon Taltavall of Hamilton, on an active Bench Warrant issued by the Town of Sherburne Court, for a violation of probation or conditional discharge.   Taltavall was arrested in the Town of Norwich; he was arraigned in the Town of Sherburne Court & was remanded to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office on $1,000.00 cash bail. Taltavall is scheduled to appear back in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.

The CHENANGO COUNTY COUNCIL OF THE ARTS is currently looking for area artists who would like to submit their work to Fourth Friday’s in downtown Norwich.  Every Fourth Friday of the month local downtown merchants place artwork in their storefront windows as part if the monthly event. The event includes an art walk starting at 5 PM followed by a gallery opening with live music and food at The Artists’ Palette in Norwich.  More information is available at 244-1445.

The Police Benevolent Association of the New York State Troopers is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man who stabbed Trooper Rodney Smith at the empire state plaza in Albany Sunday.  Trooper smith was approached by a man seeking directions, before stabbing him in the neck.  Trooper smith is recovering at Albany Medical Center; Police are looking for 18-year-old Eric Green as a person of interest,

A private family funeral was held today in Norwich for 36-year-old Jennifer Ramsaran of New Berlin, who was reported missing in December and whose body was found in the town of Pharsalia last week. Ramsaran will be buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in the town of Norwich, the cause of her death has not been determined, the investigation is continuing.

Governor Cuomo announced that the state DMV has investigated 13,000 possible cases of identity fraud since facial recognition technology was implemented three years ago. These investigations have resulted in more than 2,500 arrests and more than 5,000 individuals facing administrative action.  Research showed that about 50% of the subjects identified had one valid license while having a second record that was suspended or revoked, 20% of the subjects had suspended or revoked licenses, 30% of the subjects had multiple valid licenses.

State senate republicans are forwarding the 2013 Family Tax Relief Act, to assist the struggling families upstate, area state senator Jim Seward comments:

Seward said that the plan will update tax credits and exemptions, some more than 25 years old, would more than double the value of the Dependent Exemption; increase the Child Tax Credit and provide an additional $500 child tax credit; increase the value of the Dependent Care Credit; and restore STAR property tax rebate checks.

State Troopers arrested 40-year-old Rhonda Butler of Endicott for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument. The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on State Route 17C, Butler was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.

Governor Cuomo announced $285,000 in available funding for the third year of the Governor’s “Fresh Connect” program, which brings fresh food from New York farms to underserved communities throughout the state. The Fresh Connect program provided viable market locations for over 100 farmers, which helped, increase the sale of locally grown food. The applications are due by April 3rd, & are available at the Department of Agriculture and Markets’ website: www.agriculture.ny.gov.
