Delaware County deputies along with Downsville Fire Department were dispatched to a report of a missing hunter in the Campbell Brook area in the Town of Colchester Sunday. Deputies and Fire personnel located the vehicle of the missing hunter on Morton Brook Road; Services were summoned from the Environmental Conservation Police, Forest Rangers, Roscoe-Rockland Fire Department and the Colchester Police Department. Following a lengthy search, 24-year-old Steve Quinn of Ocean Side, New York was located, in good health; he was treated by members of Downsville EMS and was released.

Governor Cuomo today announced that temporary lane closures associated with road and bridge construction projects on New York State highways will not be permitted from 6:00 AM Wednesday, through 6:00 AM Monday, in order to accommodate motorists during the busy Thanksgiving holiday travel week. Some work may continue behind permanent concrete barriers or for emergency repairs. AAA predicts that nearly 49 million people will travel more than 50 miles from home from Wednesday through Sunday, and more than 89% of those travelers will be driving. That number is up an estimated two percent over last year and is the highest number of expected Thanksgiving travelers since 2007.

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman issued a statement on the $25 million settlement agreement reached in Trump University fraud case. Schneiderman stated that his office first sued Donald Trump in 2013 for swindling thousands of Americans out of millions of dollars through a scheme known as Trump University. Trump agreed to a $25 million settlement agreement for over 6,000 victims of the fraudulent Trump University.

Students from the Delaware Academy in Delhi auditioned last week by video for a chance to sing the National Anthem at Citi Field before a New York Mets Baseball game next year. ON Friday, Officials from the Mets notified school officials that their students would be singing at Citi Field on June 18th.


The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office responded to an Armed Robbery Friday at the Speedway Gas Station, in the Town of Norwich. The suspect displayed what appeared to be a handgun and demanded money from the store employee. The Sheriff’s Office arrested 36 year old Jeremy Farnsworth of Norwich for 2nd degree Robbery police recovered the stolen cash and the weapon used in the robbery. Farnsworth was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $25,000 cash bail. He is to reappear in court on November 22. The State Police and City of Norwich Police Department assisted with the investigation.

Trooper Michael Gardner observed the Guzman vehicle & he refused to stop. After a brief pursuit, Guzman purposely drove off of State Route 79 and into a field that led down a steep embankment and into an ice-covered lake in the town of Barker. Trooper Gardner with the help of a passing motorist, tied a rope to his belt and entered the ice-covered water & pulled Guzman out. Guzman’s vehicle was located & removed, Guzman was transported to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City where he refused medical attention, he was issued numerous traffic tickets to the Town of Barker court & he was then turned over to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department for a possible felony assault charge.

Governor Cuomo today announced the launch of the New “New York Broadband Program’s Consolidated Funding Application Portal”, which is now accepting applications for the Request for Proposals issued on January 8th . The $500 million program provides funding for high-speed Internet access to unserved and underserved areas across the state, Applications may now be submitted through the New York State CFA Portal, and are due Friday, April 15th. Applicants must be able to complete projects by December 31, 2018. Subsequent rounds of funding will be announced throughout 2016.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman issued a statement on today’s decision by the Appellate Division, in the office’s lawsuit against Trump University: Schneiderman said that the decision was a victory in the state’s effort to hold Donald Trump and Trump University accountable for defrauding thousands of students. The state Supreme Court had already determined that Trump and his University are liable for operating illegally in New York as an unlicensed educational institution. The state’s fraud case will move forward on behalf of 5,000 consumers who paid out millions of dollars for tuition to Trump & Trump University.

Construction on the Oneonta Heights project in Oneonta is expected to begin shortly. The project calls for 60 units of affordable housing in 7 buildings, at a cost of 15.9 million dollars. The buildings will be in 3 “clusters”, the largest being at Silver Creek, located between Hartwick College and SUNY Oneonta. Locations include Monroe Avenue, Columbia Street, West Street & Spruce Street.

54 recruits began their first day of training today, as the Department of Environmental Conservation opened the 20th Basic School for Uniformed Officers. The 27-week training academy will prepare the recruits for careers as Environmental Conservation Officers and Forest Rangers. The EnCon Officers & Forest Rangers are full-fledged State Police officers and are often called upon to assist in police work.

Governor Andrew Cuomo today announced proposed revisions to the state’s solid waste regulations to increase protections for public health, safety, natural resources and the environment. The proposed changes include measures to regulate previously unregulated facilities, activities, and waste streams within the state’s existing solid waste management program. The regulations will also increase oversight of construction and demolition debris and historic fill, reducing the potential threat of these waste streams to water quality and the environment throughout the state.

The daughter got behind the wheel, with two other 13-year-olds also in the car. The daughter then lost control, struck an embankment and the car rolled two times. All three were slightly injured and taken to Wilson Hospital. Deputies said Hill was standing in the parking lot when it happened.  Hill has been charged with three counts of reckless endangerment in the first degree, a class D felony. She was arraigned in the Town of Union Court.

A small plane’s landing gear collapsed, causing it to crash and flip on landing at the Cortland County Airport Sunday afternoon. The 55 year old pilot walked away and had exited the plane before emergency crews arrived and he was taken to the Cortland Regional Medical Center for non life-threatening injuries. The plane has been moved to a secure location as local investigators wait for FAA officials to arrive and take over the investigation.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump and The Trump Entrepreneur Institute, formerly named Trump University LLC, and Michael Sexton, former president of Trump University for engaging in persisten fraudulent, illegal and deceptive conduct in connection with the operation of Trump University. Between 2005 and 2011, More than five thousand people across the country paid Donald Trump around 40 million dollars as Trump University operated as an unlicensed educational institute that promised to teach Donald Trump’s real estate investing techniques to consumers nationwide but instead misled consumers into paying for a series of expensive courses that did not deliver on their promises.

Police arrested Kim A. Seals, 23, of Binghamton, Saturday at a home on Crocker Avenue in the village of Johnson City. He was wanted for stabbing Tequon Williams, 23, also of Binghamton, on Aug. 13. Police said Williams was stabbed in the stomach at a home on Charlotte Street in Binghamton. He then fled to a home on Hamilton Street, where police found him. Williams underwent emergency surgery at Wilson Hospital. Seals has been charged with one count of assault in the second degree.

There will be a meeting tonight at 7pm to start planning for the 2014 Afton Fair. Some ideas being explored for the 125th edition of the fair include a community parade with bands, floats and fire departments, a semi-truck rodeo, trout fishing tank, a dunking tank, pony rides, petting zoo, a sheep show, a beef show, chain saw artist and a 5-K run. Members of the board are continuing to search for a midway for the fair and would appreciate any help with the search. The meeting will be held in the Afton Fair Water Building at 7pm tonight. All are invited to attend.

Delaware Avenue between K-mart and County Route 39 will be closed through Wednesday afternoon August 28th for a culvert installation. The Chenango County Department of Public Works will close a section of County Road 33 on tomorro on Tuesday, between County Road 36 (Norwich-Guilford Road) and County Road 34 (Springvale Road), in the Town of Norwich. This closure will be in place until the required culvert replacement work is completed. Local traffic shall be allowed access to their homes; however they will be required to travel away from the project for the closure period.
