The US Department of Veteran’s Affairs announced that all Veterans who were exposed to toxins and other hazards while serving in the military – at home or abroad – are now eligible to enroll directly in VA health care through the recently signed PACT Act. Peter Potter of the VA in Albany told WCDO News that veterans need a couple of forms & they can get into the system & started getting treated:

Potter said that Veterans from all branches are eligible, they can go to VA.gov/PACT or call 1-800-MYVA411.

Congressman Marc Molinaro’s Office announced the Federal Appropriations bills includes $27.6 million for community development projects in the 19th Congressional District. Funded projects include $5,000,000 for the City of Binghamton Henry Street Improvements, $4,200,000 for the Oneonta West Main Street Water & Sewer Extension Project, $1,250,000 for the City of Norwich Sanitary Sewer System Repairs.

64 year old Johannes Vulto pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to producing cheese that caused a listeria outbreak that killed 2 people and hospitalized six others in 2016. Vulto and his company, Vulto Creamery LLC, pleaded guilty to causing the introduction of adulterated food into interstate commerce, according to prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Ganesh Ramsaran of New Berlin will be granted a new murder trial soon in Chenango County Court, the decision follows the claim that Ramsaran received incompetent counsel from his attorney Gil Garcia, who had inflated his litigation experience & was eventually censured by the Supreme Court of New Jersey. In 2014 Ramsaran was found guilty of killing his estranged wife Jennifer in December 2012 & was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison, he has been appealing his conviction & sentence for 8 years.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced that a new VA clinic will be opening soon at the Foxcare Center in Oneonta, replacing the one that has been in Bainbridge for several years, Peter Potter of the Albany Veterans Affairs office said that the clinics usage is examined every 5 years, and usage of the Bainbridge clinic was down:

Potter said that the opening date for the new VA Clinic at Foxcare will likely be early December, and the Bainbridge office will remain open until the Friday before the Oneonta Office opens.

The Latest Marist Poll shows incumbent Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul leading her Republican Lee Zeldin by 10% in the most recent polling. Hochul led by a 51% to 41% margin, 8% said that they voting for another party’s candidate or were undecided. In the U.S. Senate contest in New York, Democratic incumbent Charles Schumer (54%) has a wide lead over his Republican challenger, Joe Pinion (34%)

The State Department of Health today released its County Opioid Quarterly Report for October 2022, showing a 14% increase in 2021 overdose deaths involving opioids over the prior year. More than 30,000 naloxone administrations have been reported to the Department based on reports received through September 2022. The full report can be found at health.ny.gov.

The Governor’s Office & the state DMV announced that hundreds of people received tickets during the recent seasonal crackdown on Fake ID’s used to purchase alcoholic beverages. 580 fake documents were seized and a total of 505 tickets were issued, with an additional 46 tickets issued for violations of the Alcohol Beverage and Control Law.

The International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers Local #1529 voted on Saturday to strike against Amphenol in Sidney following the latest 3 year contract proposal. The vote was held Saturday morning at the Sidney School District, picket lines have been set up at the Amphenol plants. The Union’s Website stated that the 700 striking workers are looking for a contract that improves healthcare and paid sick leave benefits, and eliminated the two-tier wage system currently in place.

Attorney General Letitia James today announced that 88 firearms were turned in to law enforcement at a gun buyback event hosted by her office and the Binghamton Police Department. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) accepts, working and non-working, unloaded firearms in exchange for compensation on site. To date, Attorney General James has taken more than 3,600 firearms out of communities through gun buyback events since 2019.

State tax receipts totaled $58.4 billion through the first half of State Fiscal Year, exceeding the latest projections from the 1st Quarterly Update, according to the September State Cash Report by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Personal income tax receipts totaled $33.2 billion and were $2.4 billion above the state Division of the Budget’s latest financial plan projections through September 30.
