Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded Wednesday, afternoon to a work zone accident on the I-88 westbound bridge north of I-81. The investigation found that after a heavy downpour, an employee exiting a port-a-John was struck by a passing water truck traveling within the construction area in reverse, which ran over the worker’s legs and lower torso. The victim remained conscious was transported to Wilson Hospital. The investigation revealed a questionable placement of the portable facility, no charges have been filed, the accident report was sent to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Congressman Marc Molinaro announced today that the USDA will release federal resources for an agricultural disaster designation for all 11 counties in Molinaro’s 19th District and 20 other counties in New York, in response to freeze and frost last May, which caused significant damage and losses to crops. The disaster designation allows farm operators to be eligible for Farm Service Agency (FSA) emergency loans. Farmers in eligible counties have 8 months from the date of the disaster declaration to apply for emergency loans. Broome County District Attorney’ Office announced that 49 year old Kristina Doty pleaded guilty to 2nd degree Assault & will spend 5 years in jail. Doty admitted to causing physical injury to another person on March 12th, she injured a 63-year-old woman when she struck her in the head multiple times with a flashlight. Doty has a prior felony conviction for 2nd Degree Assault in 2015. She will be sentenced on November 16.

The $105 million project includes construction of the new School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, as well as the relocation and expansion of the Decker School of Nursing to Corliss Avenue in Johnson City, near the UHS Wilson Hospital Complex. State Police announced that they arrested a woman wanted for killing her twin sister in a staged accident in Hawaii. 37-year-old Alexandria Duval was wanted by the Maui Police Department for the murder on May 29th of Anastasia Duval, by driving an SUV off a cliff in Hawaii. State Police said that Alexandria Duval returned to her home in Albany, she initially attempted to escape but was apprehended without further incident, she is being held in the Albany County jail pending extradition back to Hawaii.

State Police arrested 24 year old Thomas Brannigan of Stony Point for DWI and several other traffic violations. At that time troopers were stopped, with their emergency lights flashing, while assisting the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department with a car deer accident on State Route 23 in the Town of Davenport, Brannigan failed to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle as stipulated by the state’s Move Over Laws. Brannigan was arraigned in the Town of Davenport Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 property bond.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation to aid in the expansion of “homebrew” beer, wine and cider making in New York. The bill allows for the creation and operation of custom beer, wine, and cider production centers that will rent space and equipment to those looking to produce beer, wine, or cider for home consumption. The custom production centers will provide space and lower the overhead costs of production, but also provide amateur brewers and wine and cider makers with the local ingredients and training needed when first starting out. The State Liquor Authority will regulate the new custom beer, wine and cider production centers.

Governor Cuomo today announced funding to help New York fruit and vegetable farmers join the New York State Grown & Certified program. $1.5 million is available through the Environmental Protection Fund to help farms implement an Agricultural Environmental Management plan, and a reimbursement of up to $1,000 is available for growers who participate in a third party audit of safe food handling practices.
