The bill grants farm workers overtime pay, a day of rest each week, disability and Paid Family Leave coverage, unemployment benefits and other labor protections. The bill will take effect on January 1, 2020.

The Guilford Town Board meeting last night drew a standing room only crowd of citizens, who wanted answers to their questions about the proposed High Bridge Wind Farm project by Calpine, Priscilla Welden of the Concerned Neighbors of Guilford commented:

The Proposal calls for up to 30 large Wind Turbines to be placed around the town of Guilford to generate sustainable energy, the project will also require state approval.

Broadway in Binghamton announced their lineup of shows coming to Binghamton for the 2019-2020 seasons, Tina Niles of NAC Entertainment comments:

Niles said that tickets will also go on sale Monday at 10:00 AM, for the Off Broadway show “The Office; A Musical Parody” based on the popular TV sitcom starring Steve Carrell.  Tickets for “The Office” and the rest of the announced shows are available at the Arena Box Office or through Broadway In Binghamton.com.

The Catskill Watershed Corporation awarded grants for almost $200,000 to schools and nonprofit organizations in the watershed region for educational projects and programs.  33 grants were announced, more information is available at cwconline.org.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 40-Year-Old Robert Decker of Sidney on an active Bench Warrant from Town of Sidney Court for failure to appear on previous charges of Menacing and Harassment.  Decker was arraigned in the Town of Sidney Court, and he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond.  Decker is scheduled to re-appear in the Town of Sidney Court at a later date, Deputies were assisted by the Village of Sidney Police Department.

State Police arrested 57 year old Edward Fernly of Oneonta, on 5 counts of petty larceny.  Fernly is accused of stealing items from Lowe’s in Oneonta, worth about $930.  Fernly was released on appearance tickets for Oneonta Town Court at a later date.

Organizers of Woodstock 50 have submitted their 3rd application to have the event held at Vernon Downs in Oneida County.  Previous applications were turned down due to the closeness in time of the scheduled event, and for the lack of planning for law enforcement & first responders to be on hand to sufficiently handle the demands of a large 3 day music festival.  A previous attempt to hold the festival on the 50th anniversary of the original Woodstock festival at Watkins Glen international fell apart last month.

25 year old John Mehne of Florida pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a Broome County grand jury’s indictment.  Mehne was arrested June 4 after he allegedly crashed a stolen car on I-81, tried to escape by jumping on 2 other vehicles, fled in to the woods, then Police agencies launched a manhunt.  The grand jury indicted Mehne for Grand Larceny and Menacing; he was arraigned on the latest charges & was remanded back to the Broome County Jail.  Another Grand Jury presentation is expected, as the Broome County District Attorney’s Office continues to work with State Police on additional charges relating to the series of incidents involving Mehne on June 4th.

Sidney Village Police responded to the area of the McDonalds Friday for the report of a suspicious person, which led to the arrest of 30 year old Salvatore Gallo of Sidney.  Gallo was charged with trespassing, unlawful possession of marijuana, obstructing governmental administration & criminal possession of a controlled substance, he was arraigned & was sent to the Delaware County Jail on $10,000 Cash Bail or $20,000 bond.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Department arrested 32 year old Stephanie Shulgay of Worcester, on grand Larceny Charges, she is accused of using a credit card & debits cards belonging to a family where she was a home health aide.   Shulgay was arraigned in Otsego County Court, the investigation is still ongoing & more charges may be filed.

A New Sienna Poll has been released as the state legislature gets ready to end the 2019 session.  Polled Voters approve of legalizing recreational marijuana 55% to 40%; they disapprove of a measure for Driver’s Licenses for Undocumented aliens with 41% in favor & 53% against, they support mandatory Vaccinations by an 84% to 13% margin.  Governor Cuomo’s Favorability was up to 52%, but disapprove of Cuomo seeking a 4th term as Governor.

The state’s Gaming Commission approved regulations to permit sports wagering at Resorts World Catskills in Monticello, Rivers Casino and Resort in Schenectady, Tioga Downs in the Southern Tier and Del Lago Resort and Casino in the Finger Lakes.  Sports’ betting is not expected to start until later this summer after the facilities receive their wagering licenses.  The state’s tribal casinos also plan to allow wagers too.

Governor Cuomo reminded New Yorkers today that state investigators will again crack down on underage drinking and the use of fake IDs to purchase alcohol at summer concerts and at bars this season. Investigators from the DMV, State Liquor Authority, State Parks Police and local law enforcement will conduct enforcement sweeps at venues across the state as part of the Operation Prevent campaign.  In April and May, investigators issued 139 tickets,   Patrons under the age of 21 found to be using fake IDs to buy alcohol can be ticketed and risk having their license revoked for a minimum of 90 days or up to 1 year.

State Police have arrested 25-year-old Cody Franciscovich of Owego for 1st degree murder in connection with the death of his 8-month-old daughter Ruby.  Tioga County 911 received a call to check the welfare of Ruby Sunday Morning, near the Deep Well Motel on Route 17C in the town of Tioga.  Responding troopers located the infant in a pond after interviewing Cody Franciscovich,  she was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City where she was pronounced deceased.  Cody Franciscovich was arraigned and remanded to the Tioga County Jail on no bail.  He is set to appear in the town of Tioga court tomorrow.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 22-year-old David Mordechay of Brooklyn, for aggravated unlicensed operation, driving while intoxicated, unlicensed operator, operating without a seatbelt, failure to keep right, and leaving the scene of a property damage motor vehicle accident.  The arrest followed an investigation into a motor vehicle accident.    Mordechay was arraigned in Delhi Town Court, and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail or $40,000 bond.

Watkins Glen International will no longer be hosting the 50th anniversary Woodstock music festival on August 16th through the 18th.  Officials from the racetrack issued a statement Monday afternoon that read, “Watkins Glen International terminated the site license for Woodstock pursuant to provisions of the contract. As such, WGI will not be hosting the Woodstock 50 Festival.”
