Nodine was being held in the Jail on $5000 bail on a pending rape charge, posted bail on April 17th and was released from jail. The assaulted inmate, also from Sidney, sustained minor injuries, which did not require medical treatment. Nodine was arraigned on the Attempted Assault charge and was sent back to the Delaware County Jail on $1,000 cash bail.

State Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney has challenged incumbent Republican Congressman Richard Hanna to debates prior to the Republican primary for the 22nd Congressional District seat. A recent poll shows Hanna with a large lead over Tenney by 73% to 17% with 9% undecided.   Tea Party activist Michael Kicinski of Earlville has also filed petitions to appear on the GOP ballot. He lost to Hanna in a primary in 2012. No democrats have come forward to run in this race.

Governor Cuomo today urged the federal government to recall a toy known as “Clingy Darts,” which poses a significant danger to children. The New York Department of State’s Division of Consumer Protection found the children’s toy contains more than six times the federally allowable limit of the chemical known as DEHP. The toy is imported by Greenbrier International of Chesapeake, Virginia and is sold at stores throughout New York State, including Dollar Tree.

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, the state Republican Party’s presumptive nominee for governor this year, will be the keynote speaker at the Otsego County Republican Committee’s annual spring dinner. The $75-a-head dinner will be held May 15th at the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown.

US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand released a letter to the White House Task Force pushing for better protection against sexual assault on college campuses. Gillibrand, along with six other U.S. Senators, are proposing action that would bring more transparency to the issue. The group prepared 3 recommendations for the task force, who are scheduled to make their own recommendations this week. Studies show nearly 1 in 5 women in college are victims of attempted or actual sexual assault.

New Yorkers are reminded that nearly 88,000 jobs are currently available and listed on the Jobs Express website. The site sorts thousands of jobs by region and occupation, and also allows users to search jobs based on zip code and travel distance. New businesses and job listings are added each day. A total of 7,700 businesses posted a new job order on the site in March 2014, an increase of 22 percent from March 2013. Go to jobs.ny.gov

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino announced he would run for the Republican nomination to challenge Governor Andrew Cuomo. Astorino released a video message informing the public of his decision. Astorino was elected to his second term in November in Westchester County; he has been traveling the state courting support from GOP chairmen and potential donors. Last month, Astorino opened an “Astorino for Governor” campaign account, which allowed him to raise campaign funds at the higher limits set for statewide candidates. The state Republican Party convention is scheduled for May in Rye Brook.

A Siena College poll shows New Yorkers favor Hillary Clinton for president, over New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie.  Clinton tops Christie, Congressman Paul Ryan, and Senator Rand Paul by over 35 points among New Yorkers polled recently, regarding the 2016 presidential race.

Governor Cuomo announced the release of $130,000 for the “FreshConnect” Farmers’ Market program, which assists New York farmers by promoting the sale of locally grown food products. The Binghamton Mets will hold their annual “Welcome Back B-Mets” Dinner on Wednesday, April 2nd at the DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton in downtown Binghamton.  Tickets are $25.00 per person. The settlement over land and taxes, between New York State and the Oneida Indian Nation, was ratified by a federal judge yesterday. The Oneidas will pay $50 million a year to the state, from gambling revenues at Turning Stone casino, in return for a casino monopoly in a 10-county area. Both sides say the settlement ends decades of legal battles between the Oneidas and the state and Madison and Oneida counties.

NEWS FRIDAY 2-7-14 http://www.wcdoonline.com/localnews/p-m-news-friday-2-7-14/ Fri, 07 Feb 2014 19:17:47 +0000 http://www.wcdoonline.com/localnews/?p=2382 Continue reading ]]> State Police announced the arrest of 3 people for allegedly operating a Meth Lab in Broome County.  Arrested were 25-year-old Caleb McNeilly, 33-year-old Brad Gates  and 27 year old Nathan Pixley, all from Castle creek, on a variety of drug charges, following a 3-week investigation by the state Police CNET team & Vestal Police.   Police confiscated 8 ounces of liquid methamphetamine; 2.5 grams of powder methamphetamine; a scale; a surveillance camera; cellphones; a 20-gauge shotgun and a .22 caliber rifle; as well as chemicals & items utilized in meth manufacturing.  All 3 were arraigned and were remanded to the Broome County Jail.

Oneonta police, and the Otsego County Sheriffs department K9 unit executed a no-knock search warrant Thursday morning at 71 Elm Street in Oneonta, and arrested 2 women on charges of heroin possession.  25-year-old Stephanie Seagren, and 24 year old Jania Barnett, were charged with 3rd degree possession of a controlled substance.  Police seized 38 packets of heroin and $620 in cash. Both were arraigned in Oneonta city court and sent to the Otsego County jail

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino has opened a campaign account with the State Board of Elections that allows him to raise money for this year’s gubernatorial race. Astorino has not publicly declared his candidacy. But the new account allows him to accept much larger contributions as he considers challenging Governor Cuomo, a Democrat with $33 million in the bank. Astorino has said he will make a decision later this month about whether to run for governor.

About one third of the 17,487 bridges in New York are rated either “structurally deficient” or “functionally obsolete.”  The state Department of Transportation said those bridges are safe, but need repairs or upgrades. For each bridge, the state provides the location, the feature it passes over, the year it was built, the owner, the date of last inspection and the condition ratings. State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli released a report that said the state should rework the pot of money dedicated to highway and bridge repairs so it pays for its intended purpose.

Governor Cuomo today announced the Formation of the Common Core Implementation Panel, which will undertake an immediate and comprehensive review of the rollout of the Common Core standards in New York State.  Assemblyman Cliff Crouch held a public meeting about the issue in Binghamton recently:

The panel includes State legislators, parents, educators, and business and community leaders, they will deliver a set of recommendations before the end of the legislative session to improve the proposal’s implementation.
