Governor Cuomo today unveiled a package to protect New Yorkers, as well as government entities, from cyber-attacks. The package includes the strengthening and modernization of cybercrime and identity theft laws, as well as the creation of a new Cyber Incident Response Team to provide cybersecurity support to state entities, local governments, critical infrastructure and schools. Many of the New York’s criminal laws that protect financial or intellectual property and ensure privacy have not kept pace with this growth.

State Police in Endwell announced that they have located 22-year-old Allyson Cheechalk-Buttman of the Town of Union, who was reported missing on December 29th. Cheechalk-Buttman was located out-of-state and spoke with troopers, she was safe & in good health, the investigation is closed & no criminal charges were announced.

NY State of Health, announced that more than 3.4 million people have enrolled in health insurance through December 24th. With almost a month to go until the end of the 2017 Open Enrollment period, participation in the NY State of Health Marketplace has already increased more than 22% over the same time period last year, The overall share of New Yorkers now enrolled through the NY State of Health has reached nearly 18% of the state’s population. Consumers who have questions or need help enrolling can log onto www.nystateofhealth.ny.gov, call 1-855-355-5777 or make an appointment with an in-person assistor. Customer service hours are Monday- Friday 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will host a “First Friday Eat & Meet” this morning from 8:30 – 10 a.m. at Feather & Stone Restaurant, 38 West Street in Walton. The featured speaker is Perry Dwyer who was appointed as DCMO BOCES superintendent in August.

A Village of Sherburne resident was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrested Tracy Boyer on 1 felony count of Grand Larceny, Boyer is accused of possessing stolen property valued at $2000 that was taken from a residence in Smyrna. Boyer was released on her own recognizance on an appearance ticket to return to the Town of Smyrna Court at a later date.
