Oneonta Police Detectives arrested a 52- year-old man from New Rochelle Thursday afternoon following a 2-month investigation into narcotics trafficking. Search warrants were obtained for the suspect’s person and for an 85 Ford Avenue. The suspect was transported to the City’s Public Safety Building. A 2nd warrant was served that permitted officers to conduct a body search, the suspect became combative, officers observed that the suspect placed a substance believed to be cocaine in his mouth, which was swallowed after a struggle with 4 officers. EMT’s responded, the suspect was taken to Fox Hospital in Oneonta, where he died at 7:40 PM. The body was taken to Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton for an autopsy and toxicology screening. The suspect’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The incident remains under investigation by the Oneonta Police Department under the supervision of the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office.

Officials at SUNY Broome have confirmed that freshman Miranda Gifford of Rome, has died from injuries she sustained in a car crash on State Route 12 in Oxford Monday. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office said Gifford veered in to oncoming traffic around 12:00 noon & struck a truck operated by Danny Hall of Barton. Gifford was extricated from her vehicle and airlifted to University Hospital in Syracuse, where she died Wednesday afternoon. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Gifford was enrolled at SUNY Broome, they are offering counseling for students affected by Gifford’s death.

The Houston Astros are sending several items to the National Baseball Hall of Fame & museum, that were used their World Series championship. Artifacts donated by the Astros following Game 7 includes a Glove used by Astros third baseman Alex Bregman, a Jersey worn by Astros pitcher Justin Verlander in Game 6 & a Cap worn by Astros pitcher Charlie Morton in Game 7. The artifacts will be featured in the Autumn Glory exhibit, which will be on exhibit through the 2018 Postseason.

The Village of Oxford Mayor Terry Stark has officially proclaimed November as “Oxford Recycles Month.” to coincide with the state’s “NY Recycles” and the national “America Recycles Day” held every year on November 15th. Mayor Stark calls upon the people of the Village of Oxford to observe November with appropriate programs and activities. Oxford Academy will be spreading the message of recycling with students during “Oxford Recycles Month.”

Tomorrow, local Special Olympics athletes and coaches will join the Law Enforcement Torch Run in carrying the “Flame of Hope” to start the 6th Annual Binghamton Polar Plunge. Last year the Binghamton Polar Plunge raised over $21,000 with all proceeds helping to fund training and competition local Special Olympics athletes. This year, the Plunge for Special Olympics will be held at Bowman Lake State Park at 745 Bliven Sherman Road in Oxford; Registration will be from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, & the Plunge will start at 1:00pm. The Arc Otsego will host the 3rd Annual Hot Cocoa 5K Run & 1K Walk, Run & Roll Event, at Neahwa Park, Sunday. The Hot Cocoa 5K will begin at 10 am in Oneonta’s Neahwa Park, through Oneonta, and end in Neahwa Park. An untimed 1K run will also be held, beginning at 9:30am, within Neahwa Park. Tri-County Tea Party Patriots will hold a meeting today starting at 7:00 PM in the Bainbridge Town Hall in the First Floor Meeting Room. There will be an explanation of the three NY State Ballot Proposals that will be voted on November 7th. including the vote on a NY State Constitutional Convention. A presentation by featured speaker George Phillips from Reclaim New York is also planned, there will be refreshments available. It is free to attend and open to the public.
