Former Otsego County Sheriff’s deputy Arnold Carroll of Maryland was sentenced to 5 years probation following a plea bargain arrangement to charges of possessing and selling stolen firearms. Carroll was also fined $10,000 and will perform 150 hours of community service. Carroll stole the weapons between 1995 and 2007 while serving at the sheriff’s office’s evidence locker, & selling some of the firearms to a gun store.

Chenango County Emergency officials reported that 2 brothers were rescued the Susquehanna River in Afton Thursday evening at about 7:35 PM, after their small boat overturned, just west of the village of Afton. The Rescue took about 1 hour, one of the boaters was taken to Tri-Town Regional Hospital in Sidney for evaluation. Rescue crews from Afton and Harpursville responded to the scene

Oneonta Police responded to the report of a man in Neahwa Park performing a lewd act while near the playground Wednesday. A witness directed officers to 43-year-old Brian Malisch of Wisconsin. Malisch admitted to the act & Police also discovered a loaded handgun and high capacity magazine in his vehicle. Malisch was arrested for Criminal possession of a weapon, Criminal possession of a firearm, Public lewdness & Endangering the welfare of a child, he was held at the City of Oneonta Police Department until arraignment in the City of Oneonta Court.

NYSEG is reporting that about 285 Chenango County customers are without power this morning, from yesterday’s storms. The bulk of power outages were reported in western New York Counties, where 4 tornadoes are believed to have touched down.

The 4th Annual NYKE Association’s Kite Festival will return to Laurens this weekend at Edgewood Mountain both Saturday & Sunday. Spokesman Mike Harter explains:

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 2nd annual Catskill Scenic Mountain Trail Half Marathon and Relay tomorrow. The 13.1-mile race begins in Bloomville and finishes in Stamford.
