Almond Upton was found guilty in Broome County Court today of 1st degree murder for the death of State Trooper Christopher Skinner. The Jury deliberated for about 8 Hours until about 10:30 this morning, Upton intentionally ran down Trooper Skinner on May 29th 2014, while he was conducting an unrelated routine traffic stop on Interstate 81 North in the Town of Chenango. Upton will be sentenced in Broome County Court on November 10th.

The State DOT today announced that the right lane on I-81 northbound near the Exit 5 interchange is closed to through-traffic through Monday Morning at 11:00 AM, because of the Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally in Otsiningo Park. I-81 northbound through-traffic will be shifted to the left and center lanes near Exit 5, the right lane will be closed and used as a dedicated acceleration lane for Exit 5 northbound on-ramp traffic. The existing Exit 5 northbound on-ramp acceleration lane will be used for shuttle busses to safely enter and exit the highway at the Spiedie Fest. Motorists will still be able to use the Exit 5 northbound on-ramp and off-ramp to enter and exit the highway.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will host a blood drive, sponsored by the American Red Cross & Bassett Healthcare, on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM in Cooper Park adjacent to the Hall of Fame in a Red Cross bloodmobile. Blood donors will receive free admission to the Museum on Saturday. Appointments can be made at 1-800-REDCROSS or redcrossblood.org. The Museum will be open from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Saturday.

The Sidney Department of public Works announced that Pearl Street East from James Street to Prospect Street would be closed again today. Crews will be replacing Storm Pipe; the work will be performed from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
