State Police reported that I-88 was closed in both directions after a tractor-trailer’s gas tanks caught fire when they were hit by a car, that was avoiding a deer carcass in the roadway. The accident occurred at about 7:45 this morning in the town of Otego between exits 12 and 13 where the eastbound lanes were closed and the westbound lanes are divided to allow traffic in both directions. Troopers reported that in spite of the fire, the unidentified driver was not injured; the driver of the car was treated for minor injuries. State police reported that the Highway has been reopened this afternoon.

Governor Cuomo & State Leaders announced an agreement on a 5 Point Ethics Reform Plan to toughen election, lobbying, and ethics enforcement laws, including legislation to curb the power of independent expenditure campaigns from the 2010 Supreme Court Citizens United ruling, Area Assemblyman Cliff Crouch commented about the ethics reform package:

Delaware County Deputies arrested 78-year-old Sidney Cunningham of Unadilla for DWI & failure to keep right, following a 1-car accident on Dunshee Road in the Town of Sidney. Cunningham was released on his appearance tickets to the Town of Sidney Court on July 14th.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 68-year-old Earl Eaton of Greene, Saturday following an accident on Pigeon Hill Road in the Town of Fenton. Deputies responded to the report of a car hitting into a tree, Eaton was transported to an hospital for evaluation, Eaton was charged with DWI, Unreasonable speed, Failure to maintain lane, & driving left of pavement markings, he will answer to the charges in Town of Fenton Court at a later date.

State Senator Jim Seward announced senate passage of the “New York State Terror Registry,” which would require anyone convicted of state or federal crimes of terrorism to register with the Division of Criminal Justice Services, and would make their non-confidential information available to the public. The bill is modeled after Megan’s Law, which established the New York State Sex Offender Registry. The bill has been sent to the assembly.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office & Walton Police executed a search warrant at 8 Benton Avenue, Walton, Thursday, which led to the seizure of Suboxone and marihuana. Deputies arrested 32-year-old Donald Debrock, and 21 year old Nicolette Fischetti for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, Debrock and Fischetti were arraigned in the Walton Village Court and were remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $75,000 cash bail pending further action in that court.

State DOT Officials announced that I-88 between exits 12 & 13 has been closed following a tractor-trailer accident with a fuel spill this morning. DOT Spokesman Dave Hamburg explains:

Hamburg said that fuel spill; he said that the accident occurred in the construction zone where all traffic had been diverted to one side of the highway. WCDO News will have updates as soon as they become available.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 42-year-old Frederick Damiano of Masonville, for endangering the Welfare of a Child & criminal mischief, after an investigation of a domestic incident. Damiano was arraigned in Town of Hamden Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $1000 cash bail; he is scheduled to appear at the Town of Masonville Court at a later date.

The State DOT announced that construction work for the Prospect Mountain construction project will be performed and will require a long-term lane closure on the State Route 17 east ramp to Interstate 81 north in the City of Binghamton. Starting at 9:00 AM today, the ramp to I-81 will be reduced to 1 lane to install pavement markings associated with the new long-term traffic pattern, to construct a new pier for the future I-81 north/State Route 17 west Flyover Bridge. Motorists are advised to be alert for slow moving traffic and sudden stops.
