Colgate University officials and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office University have identified the students as Cathryn Depuy and Ryan Adams, both 18 years old and from Ridgefield, Connecticut. The 2 freshmen were killed Sunday after their small plane crashed in a wooded area in the Town of Eaton in Madison County, shortly after take off from Hamilton Municipal Airport. Officials said that Depuy was at the controls of the single-engine Cessna 150, Federal Aviation Administration officials & the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating. A community vigil has been scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight at Colgate University.

Broome County deputies responded Sunday to State Route 12 and Knapp Hill Road in Chenango Forks, for a reported motor vehicle accident. Patrols located the vehicle in a ditch, and a male, covered in blood, which ran from the scene. The male was taken into custody & was identified as 29-year-old Andrew Hessney of Chenango Forks; he was transported to Wilson Hospital for treatment of his injuries and later released to the custody of the Sheriff’s Office. Hessney was charged with Obstructing Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest, moving from a lane unsafely, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility in $500.00 bail pending future court action.

State Police arrested 23-year-old Anthony Torre of Greene for aggravated harassment. The arrest occurred after troopers responded to a complaint of a threatening phone call being received at a home in the Town of Union. An investigation determined that Torre had called his girlfriend and threatened to pour gasoline on her and light her on fire. Torre was arraigned and was released without bail required.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded Sunday to an unknown injury motor vehicle accident on Smith Hill Road in the Town of Lisle. Deputies found a vehicle stuck in a yard in front of 429 Smith Hill Rd. The driver was also located & identified as 34-year-old Michael Quail of Lisle, he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, as well as several other charges, and he was processed at the Broome County Sheriff’s Office and will answer charges in the Town of Lisle court at a later date.

On Thursday, October 8th at 6:30pm there will be a Free training on Heroin / Opioid Overdose Prevention at the Sidney Fire Department at 74 River Street in Sidney. The training will be provided by the Southern Tier Aids Program, it will include how to learn the signs and symptoms of heroin and opioid overdose, how to use NARCAN to respond to an overdose situation & participants can receive a FREE Intranasal or intramuscular NARCAN kit to carry and use. The event is open to the community. Registration is requested at 829-3000.

SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher announced the support of the SUNY Board of Trustees for an initiative, which would allot the in-state SUNY tuition rate to all United States veterans and their dependents. The bill would allow the Veterans & their dependants, regardless of whether or not they live in New York State, to attend SUNY Schools.

Endicott Police and State Police Investigators uncovered a methamphetamine-manufacturing laboratory at a residence on West Wendell Street. Police arrested 22-year-old Paige Vymislicky of Endicott, for Burglary, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine. 24 year old Bradlee Bismark of Endicott was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia. Both suspects were arraigned in the Town of Union Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail with out bail.

The age-adjusted suicide death rate for years 2011-2013 in Delaware County was 17.2 per 100,000 which are above the State average, and for that reason, The Suicide Prevention Network of Delaware County will be hosting “Let’s Talk about It” at 2 locations today, spokesperson Rene Stratton comments:

Oneonta officials announced that more tests are being conducted this week on their water distribution system. Hydrant flow test & pipe condition tests will be conducted today at numerous locations around the city, they will continue again on Friday, more information is available at 432-2100.
