Binghamton Police charged 21-year-old Jabari Ashe of Brooklyn for 2nd degree Murder, in connection with the death of 26-year-old Tyquan Gumbs of Binghamton. Gumbs was fatally shot on April 28th at 10 Fayette Street in Binghamton. Ashe was arrested in Brooklyn; He was arraigned & was remanded to the Broome County Jail.

Governor Cuomo announced the Methane Reduction Plan, which includes 25 actions to reduce methane emissions from the landfill, oil and gas, and agricultural sectors across the state. The State DEC & the Energy Research and Development Authority will implement the plan, in conjunction with the Soil and Water Conservation Committee. The Governor is directing the state’s implementation of these actions by 2020 as part of State’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 40 percent by 2030

Right-wing radio host Alex Jones apologized on his “Info Wars” show Wednesday and retracted false stories about Chobani regarding their Twin Falls Idaho Plant, and some of their refugee workers. Jones had previously accused Chobani employees’ children in connection with the rape of a 5-year-old girl in Twin Falls. Chobani sued Jones on April 24, accusing him of posting false and defamatory information, regarding both the alleged crime; Jones also claimed that Chobani was linked to an increase in tuberculosis in the area. Twin Falls is home to a $450 million Chobani plant that employs more than 1,000 employees; they also operate a plant in Chenango County.

The Norwich Fire Department is the recipient of a nearly $90,000 grant to purchase a new vehicle exhaust extraction system. U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced the grant was made, through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

The Chenango County Department of Health announced that a free rabies clinic is being held today for dogs, cats & domesticated ferrets. The clinic will be held at the Plymouth Fire house, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM.

Governor Cuomo announced the winners of the Taste New York Inaugural Craft Beer Challenge, with 2 locals in a 1st Place tie. Brewery Ommegang from Cooperstown and Roscoe New York Beer Company were declared the winners in a tie following a blind taste test in New York City Wednesday afternoon.

State Senator Jim Seward announced senate passage of a legislation to accelerate the availability of ridesharing locally during the upcoming July 4th holiday period. Seward is the co-sponsor of the bill that would allow transportation network companies to begin operating in upstate counties on June 29th, the original bill had ridesharing beginning July 9th. Companion legislation has been introduced in the state assembly.

New York would be the first state in the nation to give every resident health care if a bill passed Tuesday in the State Assembly becomes law and creates a single-payer health-care system. The Health care would be paid for by an employment-based premium based on income, with employers paying 80%, with no co-pays or deductibles. The Assembly has passed the bill 3 years in a row; the Senate has not acted on the legislation.

Hunters in New York State harvested an estimated 213,061 deer during the 2016-17 hunting seasons, an estimated 5% increase over 2015-16 levels, according to DEC statistics released Wednesday. The 2016 deer take included 106,055 antlerless deer and 107,006 antlered bucks. In the Southern Zone, hunters took 188,387 deer. More information is available at dec.ny.gov.
