Voters in the Walton Central School District decided to pass its budget Tuesday by a slim vote of 511 people in favor and 510 opposed. The $20.5 million spending plan lowers the tax levy by 5%.

The Chenango County Health Department will hold another free rabies clinic today. The clinic will be held at the Greene fire station at 8 North Canal Street from 5:00 to 6:00 PM.

The Bainbridge-Guilford Central School will hold a Board of Education Meeting Today in the District Conference Room at 5:30 PM. The Open session will start at 7:00 PM

This week, State Senator Tom Libous returned to the Senate for Legislative Session. In the past few months Senator Libous had two back surgeries and a staph infection that kept him away from the Senate Chamber.

State Senator Jim Seward announced senate passage of legislation he sponsored which will enhance women’s health care in New York State to include pregnancy as a qualifying event for women to enroll in any health insurance plan at any time.

Under current law, New Yorkers can only purchase insurance coverage through the exchange outside of an open enrollment period when certain “qualifying events” such as marriage, divorce, becoming a U.S. citizen, or giving birth occur, Seward’s legislation adds pregnancy to the list of qualifying events. The bill has been sent to the assembly where companion legislation has been introduced.

In May the State’s private sector job count grew by 47,400, or 0.6%, to 7,783,800, according to preliminary figures released today by the State Department of Labor. The statewide unemployment rate in New York was unchanged at 5.7% in May.
