State Senator John DeFrancisco of Syracuse will make an announcement this afternoon at 5:00 PM, regarding his decision on whether he’ll run for governor in 2018. Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb & and former Erie County Executive Joel Giambra as the three Republicans seeking the Party Nomination to run against Andrew Cuomo, who is expected to seek a 3rd term as Governor.

More than 200 new Troopers will be honored for their perseverance and dedication in completing the 206th session of the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy during graduation exercises at the Empire State Plaza in Albany tomorrow morning. Trooper Lindsey Rumenapp of Oneonta, as well as Trooper Sean Snellings & Trooper Dalton Walsh will be assigned to Troop C.

Governor Cuomo announced New York farmers are eligible to receive a tax credit for qualifying food donations made to food banks and other emergency food programs beginning January 1, 2018. The tax credit is expected to save farmers a total of $10 million annually. A fact sheet on eligibility requirements for the tax credit is available at tax.ny.gov/bus/farm-donations-credit.

State Police arrested 19 year old James Hamilton of Oneonta, for 2nd degree Rape, Criminal Sexual Act & Endangering the Welfare of a Child. An investigation determined that Hamilton had sexual contact with a child less than 15 years old in the town of Otego; he was arraigned in the town of Otego Court and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 property bond. His next court date in the town of Otego is on February 1st.

Local sales tax collection growth accelerated in 2017, according to a report by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Collections across the state grew by $620 million, or 3.9% from the previous year, regionally, the strongest 2017 sales tax growth was in the Finger Lakes, at 4.9%, other upstate regions that performed well were Central New York, Southern Tier and Mohawk Valley, all with annual increases exceeding 4%.
