Tonight will be the inaugural Pine Ridge Grocery dash For Cash Canoe race from Sidney to Bainbridge. The race was added to fit in-between the rescheduled Ed Wessels race that was held last Saturday, and the General Clinton canoe regatta during the Memorial Day Weekend, according to Wessel regatta organizer Ed Curley:

The DCMO BOCES 2nd open house this week will be held tonight at the Chenango BOCES Campus in Norwich. Spokesperson Martha Ryan explains:

Hartwick College announced that President Margaret Drugovich has accepted an offer from the Board of Trustees to continue as the school’s leader for 8 more. The new contract runs through June 30, 2024, Drugovich was appointed Hartwick’s 10th president in 2008.

The Chenango County Department of Public Works will close County Road 32, between, County Road 32C and South Oxford Bridge Road, in the Towns of Greene and Oxford on Thursday. The closure will be in place until the required culvert replacement work is completed. Local traffic shall be allowed access to their homes; however they will be required to travel away from the project for the closure period. More information is available at 337-1710.

State Police and local law enforcement statewide will be increasing patrols to combat drunk and impaired driving this Memorial Day weekend. Memorial Day is one of the busiest travel holidays of the year and police will be out in force to remove impaired and reckless drivers from our highways. The initiative starts on Friday, May 27 and runs until Monday, May 30. Drivers can expect to see sobriety checkpoints and increased patrols by State Police and local law enforcement agencies during this holiday weekend.

Local Congressman Chris Gibson announced the passage in the House yesterday of the Frank Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act, which modernizes the Toxic Substances Control Act to institute more rigorous oversight of thousands of chemicals that are used commercially. The bill updates the 40-year-old Toxic Substances Control Act by removing barriers to repeat chemical testing, mandating safety reviews of chemicals already in use, making more information available to the public, limiting animal testing whenever reliable alternatives exist, and setting deadlines for EPA decisions and compliance with restrictions, among other initiatives.


Governor Cuomo today announced that the Masters-in-Education Teacher Incentive Scholarship Program will begin accepting applications on Thursday May 26. The program provides a full SUNY or CUNY tuition scholarship to high-achieving college undergraduates or professionals for their master’s studies in education. Up to 500 new awards will be granted annually for two academic years of full-time study.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled their new Cooperstown Trolley GPS Tracking System being implemented for the 2016 Tourist Season. The system will be accessible to all visitors as a FREE mobile app for phones and tablets, to track the progress and location of the Cooperstown Trolley.
