Several fire companies responded to the report of a\nstructure fire at 754 State Route 7 between Sidney & Unadilla at around\n8:10 this morning.  Fire fighters from\nSidney Center, Unadilla Wells Bridge & Sidney responded to the fire at Lot\n38, initial reports stated that all occupants escaped the fire, the trailer\nsustained heavy damage, the cause of the fire is under investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NYSEG announced that during 2018 they provided more than $8\nmillion in economic development assistance to 95 businesses and organizations\nacross New York State.  In Broome County,\nBinghamton University has opened its new $70 million, 114,000 square foot Smart\nEnergy Building to accommodate research and development initiatives for its\nchemistry and physics departments. This project includes space for faculty,\nstudents and industry scientists and engineers to work side by side to create\nnew energy technologies and maintain and expand the regional workforce.  NYSEG worked with its community partners to\nhelp offset the costs associated with electric infrastructure upgrades required\nfor this project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

State Senator Fred Akshar acknowledged that he had a sexual\nrelationship with the mother of a murder victim, whose case he helped to\ninvestigate when he was a Captain in the Broome County Sheriff’s\nDepartment.   Akshar admitted to the\naffair with Mirella Masciarelli, whose son Mario was killed along with\nChristina Powell, by Powell’s estranged husband Aaron Powell, after Powell’s\nfirst trial, that ended in a conviction, but before Aaron Powell was granted a\nretrial, and was convicted a 2nd time.  \nThe affair occurred before Akshar was elected to the State Senate;\nBroome County Sheriff David Harder told reporters that there is nothing in the\nSheriff’s Department manual prohibiting such behavior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
