The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention announced\nthat Measles continues to spread in the United States, with more 704 cases\nreported this year in 22 states, the highest amounts reported since 1994.  The CDC reported that 44 people caught the\ndisease while traveling in another country & the largest outbreaks was from\nan in Orthodox Jewish community in Rockland County, No deaths have been reported\nbut 66 patients were hospitalized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the\navailability of nearly $87 million in grant funding to assist states, tribes,\nand territories with improving drinking water. New York is eligible to receive\nup to $3.7 million in available funding. \nProgram participants will be asked to submit work plans to EPA outlining\ntheir proposed project for approval and funding.   More information is available at\nepa.gov\/safewater\/grants<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Town of Unadilla will be holding its annual Metal Day on\nMay 16 from 6:30AM to 4:00 PM at the Town Barn on Martin Brook Road.  Town officials said that they will accept\nTires without rims or large truck\/agricultural tires, plus Scrap Metal,\nAppliances, Waste Oil, & Electronics. \nMore information is available at 369-4433.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The State DEC announced that spring turkey season opens\ntomorrow May 1st, in all of the Upstate Counties north of the Bronx-Westchester\nCounty boundary.   Turkey hunters took an\nestimated 19,000 birds in New York during last year’s spring season. The National Baseball Hall of\nFame & Museum announced today that Tim Mead has been named as the new\nPresident.  Mead has spent the last 22\nyears with the Los Angeles Angels organization as its Vice President of Communications;\nMead will replace Jeff Idelson, who recently announced his retirement as Hall\nof Fame President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chenango County Sheriff\u2019s Deputies responded Sunday\nnight to a report of a car crashing into the Town of German Town Hall.   The cause of the crash was distracted\ndriving, the unidentified driver was ticketed & faces court action at a\nlater date, the court action will have to be held elsewhere as the court room\nwas destroyed in the crash, and the building will have to be replaced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organizers for Woodstock 50 announced that it has been\ncanceled.  The 3 day festival was due to\nbe held on the 50th anniversary of the original Woodstock Festival in August at\nWatkins Glen International, the festival was cancelled due to reported permit\nissues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
