Chobani and several Chenango County businesses announced\nthat they will provide funds for a new firehouse and community center in New\nBerlin.  The Chobani Foundation statement\nsaid that the 7,000 square-foot firehouse will include 6 garage bays, offices and\nseparate rooms for gear; meetings, training and storage, and the 2,400\nsquare-foot community center will contain a kitchen area and large gathering\nspace for local residents to host a variety of events. Construction is\nscheduled to begin later this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bassett Hospital officials announced that their recent Drug\nTake-Back campaign yielded 225 pounds of unwanted, expired and unused\nprescription medicines that were dropped off at 3 locations.  The successful Drug Take-Back program was\ndesigned to encourage people to clean out their medicine cabinets, to keep them\nout of the waste stream & out of the wrong hands, Drop-off points were set\nup near the Pharmacy Departments at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, O\u2019Connor\nHospital in Delhi, and FoxCare Pharmacy in Oneonta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor Cuomo announced that more than 2 dozen drop-off\nlocations from Long Island to Buffalo are accepting work out tattered flags\nstarting Today through May 22nd.  New\nYorkers are urged to bring their old flags to the locations so that they can be\nretired “properly with respect and honor.”  The state Office of General Services will\ncollect the flags, they will be taken to the State Fair outside Syracuse, where\nthey’ll be disposed in a bonfire during the May 26 Memorial Watchfire organized\nby a local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The names of 63 law enforcement officers are being added\ntoday to the New York State Memorial honoring fallen officers.  The names were unveiled during Today\u2019s annual\nceremony at the State of New York Police Officers\u2019 Memorial in the Empire State\nPlaza in downtown Albany. It\u2019s the largest single group of names to be added to\nthe granite memorial since it was dedicated in 1989.  The names are divided into 3 categories: line\nof duty deaths in 2018, a death that occurred decades ago, and ground\nzero-related illness deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
