State Police arrested 24 year old Christopher Smith of\nWeedsport for DWI, Failure to Keep Right, Failure to Yield the Right of Way,\nDriving on Shoulder, Moving From a Lane Unsafely, Leaving the Scene of a\nProperty Damage Accident and Failure to Notify DMV of Change of Address.  Troopers responded to a 2-car accident on\nState Highway 23 in the town of Oneonta, witnesses told troopers that the other\nvehicle left the scene and drove behind a local gas station.  Troopers located Smith intoxicated behind a\nhotel, he was arrested & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on cash\nbail, he will return to Oneonta court on August 22nd.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

State Police arrested a father and daughter for DWI &\nEndangering the Welfare of a Child. Troopers arrested 31 year old Maegan\nThaxton of Cooperstown, for Aggravated DWI with child 15 or Under as Passenger,\nEndangering the Welfare of a Child, Inadequate Lights and Refusal to Submit to\na Breath Test.   Troopers made\narrangements to have another party pick-up the child and Thaxton\u2019s vehicle\nwhile at the scene.  71 year old Earl\nThaxton of Middlefield responded to State Police Oneonta barracks with the\n11-month old child in his vehicle, he was then arrested for Aggravated DWI,\n& Endangering the Welfare of a Child. \nThe child was turned over to the care of Child Protective Services.\nMaegan & Earl Thaxton will return to the town of Oneonta court on August\n15, 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor Cuomo signed “Stop Hacks and Improve\nElectronic Data Security” Act which imposes stronger obligations on\nbusinesses handling private data to provide proper notification to affected\nconsumers when there is a security breach. The Governor also signed legislation\nrequiring consumer credit reporting agencies to offer identity theft prevention\nand mitigation services to consumers who have been affected by a security\nbreach of the agency’s system.    The\nbill will take effect in 240 days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

State Police arrested 41 year old Wendy Kinchoy of Apalachin\nfor Identity Theft, after an investigation revealed that Kinchoy was hired to\nprovide home health care to a victim in Guilford.  Kinchoy is accused of taking victim\u2019s credit\ncard and making an unauthorized purchase in June.  Kinchoy was arrested & was issued an\nappearance ticket for town of Guilford court on September 3rd.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schools are not doing enough to prepare for emergency\nsituations like shootings, according to an audit of safety planning at 19\nschools by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. \nAuditors found none of the schools met the minimum planning or training\nrequirements of the State Education Department, which oversees safety planning\nfor schools.   2 schools did not have\ndistrict-wide safety plans even though plans were mandated nearly 20 years\nago.  The full report can be found at\nosc.state.ny.us<\/p>\n\n\n\n

21-year-old Skuyler Reynolds of\nChenango Bridge is facing 5 more counts of burglary and 1 count of criminal\npossession of stolen property, in connection with a series of church burglaries\nin Broome County.  Reynolds is a suspect\nin church burglaries in Binghamton, Johnson City, Chenango Bridge, Port\nDickinson and Port Crane, he is being held in Broome County Jail. Pending court\naction, the investigation is continuing & more charges may be forthcoming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

228 new Troopers were honored Wednesday for their\nperseverance and dedication in completing the 208th session of the Basic School\nof the New York State Police Academy during graduation exercises at the Empire\nState Plaza in Albany, New York.  Trooper\nTyshone Tibbs of Buffalo has been assigned to Troop C in Sidney:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
