5 Mile Point Fire Company will hold their 6th annual blood\ndrive in memory of Trooper Christopher Skinner. \nTrooper Christopher Skinner served for 13 years with the state police,\nhe was killed in the line of duty on May 29, 2014 when he was struck by a\npick-up truck while making a routine traffic stop, and he also served as a\nfirefighter with the Five Mile Point Fire Company.  The event will be held on Friday, December 27\nfrom 12:00 Noon to 6:00 PM at the 5 Mile Point Fire Company at 16 Crescent\nDrive in Kirkwood, appointments can be made with the Red Cross Blood Donor App,\nby calling 1-800-RED CROSS or visiting redcrossblood.org.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor Cuomo proposes protecting New York consumers from\npredatory and abusive debt collectors, by requiring debt collectors to be\nlicensed by the State Department of Financial Services, where they would have\nto adhere to stringent standards of conduct and empower the State to examine\ndebt collectors and pull the license of bad services. The proposal will also\ncodify a FTC rule that prohibits confessions of judgment, which give lenders\nthe unfettered power to go into court, get a judgment from a clerk and empty\nthe consumer’s bank account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A bill from Assemblywoman Didi Barrett and State Senate\nAgriculture Chair Jen Metzger to protect New York\u2019s livestock industry from the\nAsian long horned tick was signed into law by the Governor this week.  The new law directs the DEC Commissioner to\ninclude the Asian long horned tick on the State\u2019s invasive species list and on\nthe DEC\u2019s comprehensive plan for invasive species management, and also directs\nthe Commissioner of Agriculture and Markets to develop and distribute to\nfarmers an informational pamphlet on Asian long horned tick treatment,\nmanagement, and prevention.  The tick was\nfirst reported in the United States in 2017, the 1st<\/sup> new tick\nspecies to enter the country in 50 years, and is currently found in 7 states\nincluding New York. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delaware County Sheriff\u2019s Deputies arrested 67 year old Thomas\nLima of Franklin for 2nd<\/sup> degree harassment plus 12 counts of\nCriminal contempt.  It is alleged that\nLima engaged in a course of conduct which alarmed another person & violated\nan Order of Protection. Lima was arraigned in the Delhi Town court and released\non his own recognizance; he is scheduled to appear in the Town of Franklin\nCourt at a later date.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

State Officials announced a\n$10.5 million settlement with NYSEG & Rochester Gas & Electric Corp.,\nfollowing the companies’ failure to adequately prepare for and restore service\nafter storms in 2018 that left more than 300,000 homes and businesses without\npower.   NYSEG acknowledges and admits to 18 violations\nof its state-approved emergency response plans, and RG&E acknowledges and\nadmits 3 violations.  The money will be\nused to provide customer benefits at the direction of the Public Service Commission.\n  NYSEG will hire and maintain 20\nadditional employees with storm restoration responsibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor Cuomo announced a proposal to prohibit the\ndistribution and use of Styrofoam, single-use food containers. The proposal\nalso bans the sale of packaging materials known as packing peanuts.\nAdditionally, the bill would authorize the State Department of Environmental\nConservation to review and take action to limit or ban other packaging material\nupon a finding of environmental impact. The ban would go into effect by January\n1, 2022. The ban exempts prepackaged food sealed prior to receipt at a\nrestaurant or food service establishment, as well as packaging for uncooked or\nraw meat, fish or eggs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A City of Norwich resident was arrested by the Chenango\nCounty Sheriff\u2019s Office on a Fugitive from Justice Warrant.  Deputies arrested 33 year old Michael Bias of\nNorwich as a Fugitive from Justice Warrant, after arresting him on other charges.\nBias was arraigned in the Chenango County Court and was remanded to the\nChenango County Jail, where he will be picked up by the Cumberland County\nSheriff\u2019s Office at a later date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Village of Bainbridge resident was arrested by the\nChenango County Sheriff\u2019s Office for Criminal contempt. 58 year old William\nArmstrong was arrested after the Sheriff\u2019s Department received a complaint that\nArmstrong violated an order of protection. Armstrong was arraigned in the Town\nof Bainbridge Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $250 cash\nand $500 bond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
