The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office has been officially awarded Civil Re-accreditation by the New York State Sheriffs’ Association for the period commencing October 2025, through October 2030. Sheriff DuMond told WCDO news what this means:

DuMond said that about 30% of law enforcement agencies across the state earn the Civil Accreditation.

State Police Organized Retail Theft Task Force has recovered more than $2.6 million in stolen goods statewide since launching new initiatives to curb retail theft in April 2024. Across 1,006 operations, State Police and local law enforcement partners have made 1,224 arrests and filed 2,146 charges, which translates to a 13% decrease in retail theft year-over-year in municipalities outside of New York City, for the 1st 6 months of 2025.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22 year old Ross Guglielmetti of Deposit,on a number of charges, following a pursuit through Broome, Chenango & Otsego Counties. Guglielmetti was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Reckless Endangerment & resisting arrested, he face court action at a later date.

The New York State Department of Health has sent out an alert, warning New Yorkers or a new scam. Health department officials stated that Telephone scammers are mimicking the Department, some New Yorkers have been receiving phone calls from people identifying themselves as a Department of Health Employee, they will ask for information about a controlled substance prescription, adding to the confusion, the caller ID may even say the caller is from the Department of Health. Officials said that the Health Department will not make such calls to private citizens, they advise people who receive these calls to hang up & alert local law enforcement.

The City of Norwich Police Department arrested 51 year old Delf King of Norwich for 2nd & 4rd Degree Robbery, plus criminal mischief & Grand larceny, following an investigation of a robbery in the City on April 6th. King is accused of attacking a victim on East Main Street, causing multiple bleeding injuries, & forcibly stole the victim’s cell phone, and smashed it, he then retreated to his residence, retrieved a firearm, and pointed it at the victim. King appeared in Chenango County Arraignment Court where bail was set at $5,000 cash, He was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility and will appear in City of Norwich Court at a later date.

Chobani announced that the City of Rome Planning Board approved Chobani’s plan to build a facility, consisting of 8 buildings. A new design was required as the FAA said parts of the original facility were too close to the runway of the Griffiss Airport, and the 130 foot building is being moved to another part of the campus.
