Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced today that 49 year old Justin Valk of Davenport was found guilty of 2nd degree Murder, Assault, Reckless Endangerment, 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, by a jury in Delaware County Court. The jury found that Valk recklessly caused the death of his wife, Stephanie under circumstances of a depraved indifference, by injecting his wife with multiple doses of Methamphetamine and Fentanyl over a 24-hour period, in their Davenport home in August of 2022. Sentencing is set for March 25th, the Murder charge carries a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison, The drug convictions carry the potential of a consecutive state prison sentence of up to 9 years.

During the latest winter snowstorm, members of the State Police in Troop C responded to a total of 76 weather-related events between Sunday and the early morning hours TODAY. In Chenango, Delaware and Otsego Counties, there were 5 Property Damage, 1 Personal Injury accident, 14 Disabled Vehicles & in Broome County, there were 13 Property Damage Accident, 2 Personal Injury Accidents & 9 Disabled Vehicles, there were no Fatal accidents reported.

Governor Kathy Hochul reminds New Yorkers to take advantage of the State’s recently expanded child tax credit, also known as the Empire State Child Credit. The refundable credit can either help offset taxes or be paid out directly to taxpayers as cash back in the form of a refund. Eligible families can now receive up to $1,000 per child under age four and $330 per qualifying child age 4 through 16 years old. Next year, the credit for children ages four through 16 will also increase to up to $500 per child and households with eligible children under age four will still be able to claim up to $1,000 per child. 2 Binghamton residents were arrested on Friday following a search warrant that led to multiple loaded firearms, controlled substances, and items linked to a street gang, according to information from the Binghamton Police Department. Police arrested 44 year old Pedro Masso-Diaz on various drug & weapons charges, they also arrested Hailey Wells on a host of similar charges, following the execution of a search warrant by the Metro S.W.A.T. Team and the Broome County Special Investigations Unit at 6 Grand Ave. in Binghamton, Friday morning. Investigators seized 5 firearms, including an illegally possessed loaded .380 caliber Ruger handgun, a stolen AR-15, an AR pistol, 2 revolvers and Multiple high-capacity magazines were also recovered. Authorities found cocaine, mushrooms, $1,336 in cash, and items used to weigh, cut, and package narcotics for distribution. Both suspects were taken to the Broome County Jail.
