The New York State Public Service Commission is currently reviewing a major rate increase request from NYSEG with a final decision expected in the coming weeks. NYSEG is seeking a 35% increase in delivery rates for electricity, almost 40% for Natural Gas customers, they claim that the rate hikes are necessary to fund grid modernization, infrastructure reliability, and meeting state-mandated climate goals. If the rate hike if approved, residential customers could see their monthly bills jump by $30 to $35. The changes would go into effect in May.

Former area Congressman Marc Molinaro Announced that he has launched a campaign for the New York State Assembly to represent the 102nd District and fill the seat being vacated by Chris Tague. Molinaro was a member of Congress in New York’s 19th Congressional District, he then served as Administrator of the Federal Transit Administration.

The State Labor Department announced that the Initial filings for unemployment benefits dropped last week compared with the week prior, the unemployment rate stayed at about 4.6%. New jobless claims, fell to 16,916 in the week ending February 14, down from 24,382 the week before.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced that Wayne Collins has been successfully located by the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division, they are coordinating with the US Marshals in North Carolina to take him into custody, Collins was wanted on a warrant for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.
