Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 40 year old Gloria Prott of Southhaven on charges of unlawful possession of marijuana, criminal possession of a controlled substance, driving while ability impaired by drugs, speeding at 80 miles an hour in a 55 zone and operating a motor vehicle with an open container of an alcoholic beverage, following a traffic stop on State Highway 17 in the Town of Hancock. 49-year-old Edward Prott of Southhaven was a passenger in the vehicle; he was also arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana. Cocaine and Marijuana were seized from the vehicle; both were arraigned in Hancock Village Court and were remanded to the Delaware County Jail on cash bail pending future court action.

More than 9.1 million New Yorkers were working in 2016, according to a report released by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. The report showed that regional growth remained uneven, with downstate regions experiencing the highest employment growth while most upstate regions saw declines. The report also showed that the total number of employed workers declined in the Southern Tier, the Mohawk Valley, Central New York and Western New York from 2011 to 2016, women constitute nearly 48% of the labor force, 40.6% have a bachelor’s degree or higher, and nearly 24% of workers in New York belonged to unions.

Chenango County Sheriff Deputies & Norwich City Police arrested 56-year-old James Brown following an investigation into the illegal growing of cannabis. The investigation led Deputies to a Sherburne residence where marijuana plants were discovered, Brown was released on an appearance ticket for a later date in the Town of Sherburne Court.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 57-year-old Timothy Hunter after a warrant was issued for his arrest following a domestic dispute where he allegedly displayed a firearm; the victims fled the scene to a nearby residence & called 911. Hunter was arrested without incident and arraigned in the Town of North Norwich Court where he was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $250 cash bail.

A bat tested positive for rabies in the Town of Walton, the 4th rabid animal in Delaware County this year. There was 1 human exposure and the individual is receiving rabies post exposure prophylaxis. State Police arrested 62-year-old Gary Perine of Sanford for 3rd degree Arson. On August 25, troopers and local fire departments responded to an unoccupied house fire at 28 Kenyon Hill road in the town of Sanford, troopers accuse Perine had purposely started the fire inside his home. Perine was arraigned in the town of Sanford court and was remanded to the Broome county jail with no bail set. His next court date is pending.

Governor Cuomo announced that the Great New York State Fair concluded a successful year by breaking two records on its final day. Labor Day attendance of 124,819 not only set the record for the most people to come to the Fair on a single day, it also drove the Fair to an all-time annual attendance record of 1,161,912 people. During this year’s run, the Fair set four daily attendance records, including breaking the record for the largest single-day audience ever twice.

Governor Cuomo announced that a 30-member State Incident Management Team is heading to Texas today to support the response and recovery efforts in the wake of the devastation from Hurricane Harvey. The 30-member, multi-agency Team has been requested by the State of Texas Division of Emergency Management and the Texas A&M Forest Service to assist state and local officials with operational coordination, obtaining information, mapping, and logistical support for ongoing response operations.

State Police and local law enforcement agencies will be out in force this Labor Day weekend as part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” DWI campaign. Labor Day weekend traditionally results in heavy traffic volumes; State Police will maximize their DWI enforcement efforts, with sobriety checkpoints & unmarked patrol vehicles on state highways. Police will also be watching for distracted drivers, occupants who are not properly restrained and drivers that are violating the Move Over Law.

State Police arrested 37 year old Jillian Eckberg of Oneonta for Criminal Contempt & Stalking, after troopers were advised that Eckberg allegedly violated a court order of protection, by sending the protected person a series of text messages and voicemails that put him in fear. Eckberg was arraigned in town of Hartwick court and was remanded to the Otsego county jail on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 property bond, pending action in town of Milford court.

Former Binghamton Mayor Juanita Crabb and former Binghamton Triplet Jerry Coleman will be inducted into Binghamton’s Baseball Shrine in a ceremony at NYSEG Stadium before the Binghamton Rumble Ponies game tonight at 7:05 PM. Crabb was instrumental in bringing professional baseball back to the Southern Tier in the 90’s, Coleman was a member of the 1946 Binghamton Triplets, he played for 9 seasons in the Major Leagues with the New York Yankees, appearing in 6 World Series, he was MVP in the 1950 Fall Classic. Coleman also spent more than 4 decades calling games for the San Diego Padres. Binghamton’s Baseball Shrine has 65 members currently.

Governor Cuomo announced that lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on state highways will be suspended until Tuesday morning at 6:00 AM to accommodate travelers during the busy Labor Day holiday weekend. Most construction projects will be suspended, but some work may continue behind permanent concrete barriers or for emergency repairs.

State Police arrested 31-year-old Christen Young of Unadilla for Resisting Arrest, Stalking, Criminal Contempt and Harassment. Young allegedly violated a court order of protection, & she had been in a course of conduct that caused the protected person to fear for his employment and career. Young physically resisted being arrested and handcuffed; she kicked a trooper in the ankle at Police Barracks. Young was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware county jail on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 property bond. She faces action in Kortright, Unadilla & Oneonta courts shortly.

State Police arrested 37-year-old Edward Shelton & 22-year-old Cheyenne Koban of Port Crane for Grand Larceny, after troopers were advised of a theft of a .22 caliber rifle from a home in the town of Fenton. Shelton and Koban allegedly took the rifle without permission when they moved out of the home, they were arraigned in the town of Fenton court and released without bail required. Their next court dates are pending.

Governor Cuomo requested that the federal government grant a Major Disaster Declaration for 15 counties impacted by flash flooding, tornados and unprecedented levels of precipitation during severe storms in late June and July. Once the declaration is granted, FEMA funding would be available to the state and eligible local governments and nonprofit organizations to support debris removal, structure repairs and emergency protective measures. Locally, Broome County was one of the 15 counties included in the request for the disaster declaration.

State Police arrested 57 year old Rusty McConnell from Conklin, for Falsifying Business Records, and his girlfriend 41 year old April Westbrook from Conklin for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. The arrests occurred after troopers were advised of a theft of 37 brake drums from the property of Sandbox Logistics of Kirkwood, their investigation determined that McConnell and Westbrook had dropped off the stolen brake drums as scrap metal for cash in the city of Binghamton, while at the recycling locations McConnell had signed several business records saying that the scrap brake drums were his. Both were issued tickets returnable to the city of Binghamton court on September 9th.

Oneonta Police announced that 3 men wanted for an April Burglary have been arrested. Oneonta police responded to a domestic dispute on April 22nd. 1 of the victims was pistol-whipped & was treated & released from minor injuries at Fox Hospital. 34-year-old Teddy Faison of Oneonta was arrested in Monticello, he’s been charged with 2nd degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon, he was remanded to the Otsego County Jail without bail. Also charged was 19 year old Brian Scott of Utica, & 19 year old Nelson Navar of Utica, they were charged with 1st degree burglary & 1st degree robbery, they both face court action shortly.

State Police arrested 28-year-old Dorothy Ramsell of the town of Maryland, for 2nd degree Assault & Criminal Mischief, after troopers responded to a physical dispute at a home on State Route 7 in the town of Maryland. Ramsell allegedly threw a coffee mug at her boyfriend’s head & a stepladder at his vehicle, which smashed the windshield. The victim was treated at Fox Hospital for head pain and a laceration to his arm, and then released. Ramsell was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego county jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 property bond, pending court action on September 12th. The court issued an order of protection against Ramsell on behalf of the victim.

Brandon Corey was sentenced today in Broome County for a knifepoint rape of a woman in the parking lot at Wilson Hospital in Johnson City in April 2016. Corey will serve 10 years in prison followed by 20 years post-release supervision, he was also ordered to register as a sex offender.

State Senator Jim Seward announced that $75,000 in grants he secured will go to local domestic violence programs. The funding was set aside in the 2017-2018 state budget, locally, Opportunities for Otsego will receive $16,000, Catholic Charities of Delaware, Otsego & Schoharie Counties will also receive $16,000, Delaware Opportunities will receive $6,000 & Catholic Charities of Chenango County will get $5,000

Governor Cuomo announced 2 new actions to expand addiction treatment and recovery services for people across New York. A Request for Applications makes up to $4.5 million in funding available to develop nine Open Access Centers across the state and a Request for Information has been released that seeks input on the development of two pilot recovery high schools. These actions were announced at the grand opening of a new $8.4 million outpatient addiction treatment center in Rochester Tuesday.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Department arrested 40 year old Nathan Jackson of Sherburne for 3rd & 4th degree Grand Larceny. Jackson was arrested after he allegedly stole numerous items from the victims residence over a month long period, totaling about $10,790.00. Jackson was arraigned in the Town of North Norwich and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $1000.00 cash bail.

State Police arrested 79-year-old Freddie Maliwacki of Conklin after he was observed speeding at about 93 miles an hour on I-81 in Kirkwood. A pursuit continued on rural roads in Kirkwood and Windsor, the pursuit ended when a Broome County Sherriff’s deputy used a spike strip on State Route 79, Maliwacki drove with punctured tires into the Golden Oak Golf Course where he eventually struck an earth embankment and stopped. Maliwacki was charged with Reckless Endangerment & Criminal Mischief, he was arraigned in the town of Windsor court and was remanded to the Broome County jail with no bail set. His next court date is pending.

Governor Cuomo today announced the deployment of additional New York Air National Guard resources to assist in the Hurricane Harvey response in Texas. A search and rescue aircraft carrying 15 more Airmen from the 106th Rescue Wing is arriving at Fort Hood in Texas this afternoon, & a Regional Medical Plans Officer will depart for Texas on Thursday to assist with the evacuation and transportation of patients from area hospitals.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 35-year-old John Whiteside Jr of Walton New York on charges of Speeding 70/55, unlicensed operator, and aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd degree following a traffic stop on State Highway 10 in the Town of Walton. Whiteside was later released on tickets returnable to Walton Town Court at a later date.

Delaware County Deputies arrested 77-year-old Albert Swan of Clifton New Jersey for 2nd degree Burglary & Criminal Trespass. Deputies responded to a trespass in progress at a residence in the Village of Stamford, Swan allegedly entered the residence through a window to remove property; he was confronted by the homeowners and would not vacate the residence until police were called. Swan was arraigned in the Town of Harpersfield Court and released on $1,000 cash bail.

The State DOT will hold a public meeting on Today to discuss plans to replace a bridge on State Route 41 over Long Pond Brook in the town of Smithville. The open house meeting will be held at the Smithville Community Center, on State Route 41 in the town Smithville Flats beginning at 6:30 pm. A formal presentation will begin at 7 p.m. The bridge was built in 1936 & is safe for continued travel and is regularly inspected. The project proposes to replace the bridge on its existing alignment. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in the spring of 2019 and be completed in two construction seasons.

Deputies allege the defendant was driving a motor vehicle to Bronx New York from the Village of Delhi while in an impaired condition. Boykin was later released on tickets returnable to Colchester Town Court at a later date.

28-year-old Joshua Shurock of Norwich was sent to jail without bail, after being accused of assaulting a police officer & possession of heroin. Shurock was arrested last Thursday; he allegedly injured a Norwich officer while being arrested on the drug charge. The officer was treated & released at Chenango Memorial Hospital. Shurock was remanded back to jail pending future court action.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 36-year-old Seth Maki of Minnesota, with Criminal Impersonation; he is accused of falsely identifying himself to Deputies at the Delaware County Fair. Maki was arraigned in the Village of Walton Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $500 cash bail.

State Police arrested 28-year-old Todd Matias of Harpursville for Felony DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1& several other traffic violations, after a trooper heard a vehicle with a loud exhaust on State Route 79, in the town of Colesville. The officer determined that Matias was driving while intoxicated, had a suspended driver’s license, and an expired vehicle registration. Matias refused to submit to a breath test to determine his blood alcohol content, he was arraigned in the town of Colesville court, and was remanded to the Broome County jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 22-year-old Ashley Murphy, of Sidney Center, on a Bench Warrant issued by the Town of Walton, for failure to appear to answer a charge of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Murphy was arraigned in the Town of Walton Court and was released on her own recognizance and directed to reappear in the Town of Walton Court on a later date.

State Police arrested 46-year-old Wayne Johnson of Oneonta, for Felony DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, and Operating a Motor Vehicle without an Interlock Device. Johnson was pulled over for improperly working headlights, a trooper determined that Johnson was intoxicated, had a suspended driver’s license, and was driving a vehicle that was not equipped with an ignition interlock device. Johnson was arraigned in the town of Oneonta court and was remanded to the Otsego county jail on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 bond, pending September 12th court action.

Governor Cuomo signed Briana’s Law that requires State Police and New York City Police Department candidates and officers to receive CPR training prior to graduation and every 2 years after. In 2010, Briana Ojeda suffered an asthma attack while playing at a playground, on the way to the hospital; Briana’s mother was stopped by a police officer who was unable to perform CPR. Briana died shortly after she got to the hospital. The new law will go into effect in 60 days.

Cal Harris has filed papers in federal court in Syracuse today, against Tioga County officials for malicious prosecution and civil rights violations. Harris was twice convicted for murdering his estranged wife Michelle in 2001 he won appeals each time, the 3rd murder trial was moved to Schoharie County, that jury was deadlocked, and in trial Number 4, Harris was freed from Jail. Harris’ lawsuit targets former Tioga County District Attorney Gerald Keene, who prosecuting the murder case twice, and got convictions against Harris, plus Police detectives that worked the case, & people who testified against him, they are expected to respond to the suit in Federal court later this year.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 51 year old Matthew Dyer of Florida, for 20 counts of Reckless Endangerment, following an investigation by Sheriff’s Deputies and the management of Reithoffer Shows, that revealed that Dyer was operating a ride at the Delaware County Fairgrounds while intoxicated; endangering the passengers on the ride. Dyer was arraigned in the Village of Walton Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash bail pending further court action.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 30-year-old Patrick Ford of Delancey, on a Bench Warrant issued by the Town of Delhi Court as a result of Ford’s failure to appear to answer charges of Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree and Petit Larceny. Ford was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $250 cash bail.

State Police & Delaware County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 33-year-old Christopher Davis of Otego on a Warrant of Arrest issued by the Town of Franklin Court. Davis was charged with 3rd degree Robbery, Criminal Mischief & Petty Larceny, for allegedly forcefully stealing a cell phone from a victim during a domestic dispute in the Town of Franklin. Davis was arraigned in the Town of Franklin Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail pending further court action.

Norwich Police & the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 30 year old Joshua Harrington & 29 year old Coy Biviano, for the alleged sales of heroin and cocaine. Both were charged with the Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, they were arraigned in Norwich City Court. Harrington was sent to the Chenango County Jail on $10,000 bail, while Biviano is being held without bail.

State Police Superintendent George Beach today reminded the public that there is only one week remaining to apply for the new State Trooper entrance examination, which will be held this fall. Online applications for the exam must be submitted before September 1, 2017, and interested candidates can sign up at www.nytrooper.com. The exam will be held on October 7, October 14, October 21, and October 28, 2017, at several convenient locations around the state.

Chenango County Sheriff’s department arrested 2 Sherburne residents on drug charges. 36-year-old Cheryl Myers was charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, after an officer observed a drug transaction in the Town of Sherburne. Myers was arraigned in the Town of North Norwich Court & was remanded to the County Jail on Bail & is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date. Also, Deputies arrested 36-year-old Sara Hart for criminal possession of a controlled substance; she was released to appear in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 29 year old Ronald Boerner of Andes after a domestic incident in the Town of Bovina. Boerner was charged with Criminal Trespass & Criminal Mischief, after he allegedly entered a residence without permission and smashed a window out of a vehicle. Boerner was arraigned in the Town of Bovina Court where he was released on his own recognizance, and will re-appear at a later date.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Department arrested 33-year-old Daniel Taylor of Edmeston on an active Arrest Warrant for the charge of 1st degree Assault. Taylor was arrested following an investigation of an assault of a 29-year-old Norwich man on July 27th in the Village of Oxford. Taylor is alleged to have struck the victim in the head several times with a large piece of wood. Taylor was arraigned in the Town of Guilford Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash bail. Taylor is to reappear in the Village of Oxford Court at a later date to answer to his charge.
