The Village of Sidney has 2 potential developments regarding a retail establishment and new housing, Sidney Code Enforcement Officer Jamie Cole told WCDO News first about the retail proposal:

Cole & Sidney Mayor Ray Baker also told WCDO News that about 50 people are currently working for “Stiiizy” a cannabis manufacturing company in the former Acco plant, another un-named company still has plans to use one part of that facility for storage purposes, the building was sold to a San Diego Real Estate developer earlier this year.

Patrick Proefriedt of the town of Colesville was sentenced today in Broome County Court to 25 year to life in jail for 2nd degree murder. Proefriedt was arrested following the 2023 incident where he shot his newborn baby Eleanor with a crossbow and injured his wife, he pleaded guilty in March to the murder charge,

Norwich City Officials announced that Mitchell Street to Silver Street is closed to local traffic for the next couple of weeks due to NYSEG gas line replacement work. All businesses in this district will remain open and access to them will be available throughout the project.

The FBI has announced the indictment of 63 year old Henry Garcia of Vero Beach Florida for “Sending a potentially hazardous material” charge, by mailing a letter last year to the New York Attorney General’s Office in Albany, containing what was believed to be a biological weapon. The suspicious white powder was not a hazardous substance, the charge filed against Garcia carries a maximum term of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28 year old Kathleen Brown of Plymouth for Burglary & 3rd degree Grand Larceny, after receiving a larceny complaint of a vehicle. Brown is accused of taking a vehicle from a residence in the Town of Norwich without the owner’s permission, she was located with the vehicle, by the City of Norwich Police Department & was taken into custody and released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 53 year old Nancy Losee of Norwich for 4th Degree Grand larceny for allegedly stealing Merchandise for a Norwich business she was processed and released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

21st District North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik plans to run for New York Governor next year, Hudson Valley Congressman Mike Lawler is also expected to announce a bid for Governor this week & possibly force Stefanik into a primary. Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul is expected to seek re-election next year.
