Former New York State Corrections Officer Christopher Walrath pleaded guilty to 1st degree manslaughter, for his role in the December beating death of inmate Robert Brooks at the Marcy Correctional facility in Oneida County. Walrath is expected to be sentenced to 15 years in prison as part of the Plea Bargain deal, he was previously facing a 2nd degree murder charge before accepting the plea bargain deal.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s office announced that arrest of 42 year old Lloyd Hunt Jr of Sidney on an Arrest Warrant issued by the Town of Davenport Court. Deputies had received information that Hunt was near his residence in the Village of Sidney, Deputies & Sidney Village Police were able to take Hunt into custody without incident. Hunt was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arrangement Court.

19 year old Jerry Butler of Walton was arrested for sexual exploitation of a child, he is facing at least 15 years in federal prison, if convicted. Butler appeared in US District court Friday, he is accused of using social media to request sexually explicit content from a minor. The minor allegedly made the content for Butler III and sent it to him using a social media messaging app. Butler was detained pending a hearing scheduled today.

The Oxford Fire Department responded to a barn fire on Friday night at about 8:30 PM on State Route 12, Coventry, Greene and Norwich fire departments assisted, all of the animals were evacuated.

The U.S. Department of Justice filed a legal challenge to New York’s Climate Change Superfund Act last week, in the Southern District Federal Court to block the law, which charges oil and gas companies $75 billion for past greenhouse gas emissions to be paid by 2050, The act requires any company that released over a billion tons of greenhouse gases from 2000 through 2024 to pay for their share of total emissions.
