State Police arrested 69 year old Preston Branagan of Plymouth for Torturing or Injuring Animals- Failure to Provide Sustenance, plus Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. Troopers learned of the case in March when it was determined that 2 dogs were not being cared for properly in Plymouth, they observed 1 dog on the premises that was deceased and decomposing, a 2nd dog was tied up on a chain with a collar and appeared uncared for and malnourished with no immediate access to food or water. That dog was surrendered to the Susquehanna SPCA for further care. Branagan was issued appearance tickets to the Plymouth Town Court on June 17.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand commented on the impact President Trump’s tariffs on China will have on the availability and cost of essential baby products, including strollers, car seats, and cribs, more than 90% of these products come from China:

Over the past weeks, the Trump administration has raised tariffs on Chinese goods imported to the United States by 145% and shipments of goods into the U.S. have plunged. Gillibrand is calling on President Trump to consider American parents and exclude baby safety essentials from tariffs.

The State Health Department announced that there are 7 cases of Measles in the state currently, 3 in New York City and 4 in the upstate counties. Measles can spread quickly among children, complications include pneumonia, encephalitis, hospitalization, and death, New Yorkers are urged to get vaccinated if they haven’t already received a vaccine. A person with measles can pass it to others from 4 days before a rash appears through the 4th day after the rash appears. Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 39 year old Joshua Jenson of Stamford on an Arrest Warrant for failing to appear on charges of False Impersonation. Deputies received information Wednesday Night, that Jenson was in the Village of Hobart and was arrested by Sheriff’s Deputies, he was processed and turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

NBT Bancorp Inc. announced that it completed the merger of Evans Bancorp, Inc. last week, followed by a core systems conversion over the weekend. The Merger has extended the NBT Bank branch network into the Western Region of New York with the addition of 14 banking offices, NBT Bank now has 175 branches across 7 states.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office announced an Additional Charge has been filed against 42 year old Christopher DeMarco of Unadilla. Investigators located additional child sexual abuse material on a cell phone that had been found in DeMarco’s possession, he was processed for Possession of a Sexual Performance by a Child & was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court at a later date. DeMarco was arrested in March on a variety of charges including Unlawful Surveillance, Sex Offender Failure to Notify Change of Address & Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 46 year old David Burkholder of Oxford for Failure to Notify Law Enforcement of an Address Change, Burkholder is a level 1 convicted sex offender and failed to register his new address within 10 days of his move. Burkholder was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail with no bail. Burkholder is to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Strategic Response Group performed a routine traffic stop Sunday in Binghamton. 58 year old Dana Baker of Rochester, was non-compliant and attempted to flee. After a brief struggle, Baker was taken into custody. During the investigation, multiple plastic bags were found on Baker containing cocaine, he was charged with Criminal Possession of Narcotics with Intent to Sell, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, obstruction of Governmental Administration & Resisting Arrest, Baker was arraigned and remains in custody at the Broome County Correctional Facility.
