Broome County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division was contacted by a YouTube channel, which posts videos catching child predators who have been interacting with a decoy posing as a juvenile. 54 year old Denis Dean of Endwell had been speaking with a decoy posing as a 13-year-old female, he sent multiple inappropriate images of himself to the decoy and arranged to meet in-person Monday with someone he believed to be a 13-year-old female girl, Dean was confronted by members of EDP Watch YouTube channel in Endicott, Members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office and Endicott Police responded and took Dean into custody. In subsequent interviews, Dean was charged with Attempted Rape, 4 counts of Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors, and he was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility without bail.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that $10 million is available to support animal shelters, rescues and humane societies in making critical infrastructure upgrades at their facilities. $1 million will be dedicated specifically to sheltering organizations not under contract with municipalities or regions, More information about eligibility and how to apply can be found at agriculture.ny.gov, Applications are due by 4:00 pm. on January 30, 2026.

Enrollment gains have been reported across the State University of New York for the third consecutive year, enrollment is up by 2.9% in the last year & 6.5% over the past 3 years. First-time first year enrollment is also up 8.5% over the past 3 years. The results on International enrollment saw were down 3.9% this fall, with international enrollment at the graduate level down 13.8%.

Governor Hochul is calling on the Trump administration to release funding for HEAP, now that the government shutdown is over, Hochul said that The State plans to open applications for HEAP on November 24. A State website is available to inform residents about energy affordability programs to help them pay for energy bills at dps.ny.gov.

Scammers appear to focus on immigration-related matters and at times threaten to retaliate against the person if their demands are not met. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will never Threaten or demand payment of any kind, including by gift card, and it will never ask you for your credit card number. If you have been contacted by someone claiming to be from the U.S. Attorney’s Office and would like to confirm the call is legitimate, call 315-448-0672, you may also report the incident at ic3.gov.
