39 year old Tanya Carson of Masonville was convicted in Delaware County Court today to Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Physically Disabled Person in the First Degree. The investigation began when a 14-year-old disabled child was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor, the unconscious child was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where it was discovered that he had methamphetamine in his system. Carson admitted that she & 2 male individuals had been using methamphetamine in the same home as the disabled child and the child must have accessed the illicit substance, Carson will be sentenced on January 20th.

54 year old James Baker pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Baker admitted to possessing a significant quantity of methamphetamine, fentanyl, a loaded .38 caliber revolver, about $1400 in cash from suspected drug sales as well as drug paraphernalia. Baker will face 8 years in State Prison with 3 years of post-release supervision for the drug charge, and 8 years in State Prison with 5 years of post-release supervision for the Weapons charge, The sentences will run concurrently. Baker was arrested on March 6, after the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a Search Warrant at 10 Cary Street in Binghamton.

Governor Hochul today announced that 8.2 million checks have now been mailed to eligible New Yorkers under the state’s first-ever Inflation Refund Check program. Over the last two months, inflation refund checks of up to $400 have been mailed to those who meet eligibility criteria. The main phase of large-scale check mailing is now complete, checks will continue to be mailed in small numbers in the weeks ahead as the State Tax Department determines that additional taxpayers are eligible. In the Southern Tier, there will be over 251,000 beneficiaries, receiving over $66.7 Million Dollars.

State Police and local law enforcement agencies throughout the state will increase patrols to target impaired and reckless driving during the Thanksgiving travel season, through Sunday, November 30. Police will be looking for unsafe driving behaviors, including violations of the state’s Move Over Law. During the 2024 Thanksgiving holiday period, law enforcement officers arrested 1,705 drivers for driving while impaired or intoxicated, and issued 10,078 speeding tickets, and 1,702 tickets for distracted driving.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 18 year old Quincy Speller of Oneonta following an investigation in to physical altercation between 2 students at the BOCES School in Milford. Preller is accused of sending threatening text messages to another student over the course of several days, he engaged in physical altercation with the other student on school grounds, causing physical injury to the student, Preller was charged with Assault and Aggravated Harrassment & faces court action shortly.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42 year old Amy Jones of Oneonta for felony DWI, aggravated unlicensed Operation, open container in a vehicle along with other similar charges, following a traffic stop in the Town of Oneonta. Jones was intoxicated by alcohol & was also found to have a revoked driver’s license in New York State for 2 previous DWI convictions, She was processed and turned over to Otsego County Corrections pending Centralized Arraignment.
