The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced that a former Broome-Tioga BOCES employee is facing additional felony charges after another juvenile victim was identified during an ongoing investigation into inappropriate conduct with BOCES students. 51 year old Evan Thorson of Endicott was charged with Child Endangerment and Official Misconduct, after the Sheriff’s Office followed up on a referral from the State Child Abuse Hotline regarding his conduct as a member of the Broome-Tioga BOCES faculty. Today, Thorson was charged with 3rd degree Rape & Criminal Sexual Act before being remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.

Governor Hochul announced plans in the State of The State Address Tuesday, where the State will partner with 3 counties in a new State pilot program to help counties offer additional child care options, which will include $60 million in State funding, along with new investments in each of the 3 counties, as they expand child care access with a particular focus on serving children 0-3:

The Chenango County Historical Society recently announced a grant award totaling $49,500 from the New York State Council on the Arts, Society Executive Director Jessica Moquin said that they will use the Grant money to keep the Museum running with many programs throughout the year:

State Police arrested Arthur Stewart for Unlawful Possession of a Noxious Matter. Troopers were dispatched to the town of Ithaca for a report of dispute, where a person was sprayed with bear spray in a staircase between apartments, following an on-going dispute when Stewart intentionally sprayed the victim in the face. Troopers also determined that the bear spray that Stewart used is illegal to carry for self-defense. Stewart was arrested and turned over to the Tompkins County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.

State Police arrested 34 year old Mitchell Colburn of Windsor, for Promote a Sexual Performance by a Child Less Than 17 Years of Age and Possessing Sexual Performance by a Child less than 16. Colburn is accused of possession and promoting child sex abuse material. The investigation began after the State Police received a referral from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding suspicious online activity. Members of the Troop C Computers Crime Unit and the Binghamton Bureau of Criminal Investigation executed a search warrant on Colburn’s residence. Colburn was processed at SP Binghamton and later transported to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.

58 year old Anthony Gardner of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court for 2 separate DWI convictions. Gardner faces up to 9 years in a New York State Prison. Gardner initially was convicted of Operating a Motor Vehicle with .08 of One Percent or More Alcohol, he had 2 Prior Convictions of a Designated Offense Within 10 Years. This offense occurred on January 18, 2025, and Gardner pleaded guilty in September, in a separate incident, Gardner was again convicted of DWI, with a Previous Conviction Within 10 Years, he pleaded guilty in December 2025, The cases were investigated by the New York State Police and the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 30 year old Kaylee Croft of Hartwick on an arrest warrant, and also for Endangering the Welfare of a Child & Unlawful Imprisonment, following an investigation into a domestic dispute/ child custody dispute in the Town of Otsego on December 25th. An arrest warrant was applied for and granted by the Town of Otsego Court, Croft turned herself in to the Sheriff’s office & was turned over to Otsego County Corrections pending Centralized Arraignment.
