State Attorney General Letitia James announced that a coalition of 24 Attorney’s General, won a court order that will temporarily protect SNAP benefits. The ruling allowed for a temporary restraining order, which will stop the Trump administration from going after states that approved the release of SNAP benefits for the month of November, The President sent a message to Governors to immediately undo the Snap benefits, Several states, including New York, had already begun issuing the benefits in accordance with the USDA’s Friday memo stating that the agency would soon release full funding.

The Governor’s Office announced an emergency investment of nearly $550,000 in assistance for SUNY community college food pantries and related efforts to help campuses address the ongoing food insecurity crisis as a result of the longest federal government shutdown in United States history. The emergency assistance will help the food pantries located at each of SUNY’s 30 community colleges restock supplies and support students in need, more information is available at suny.edu.

The State DEC announced that the State’s most popular big game hunting season begins on Saturday, November 15 and continues through December 7th. The DEC is encouraging all hunters to take steps to remain safe, Most hunting-related injuries occur when hunters are climbing in and out of a tree stand. Hunters must wear fluorescent orange or fluorescent pink clothing (either a hat, vest, or jacket which are visible in all directions) when pursuing deer or bear with a firearm, and should always follow the basic rules of firearm safety:

Oneonta Firefighters, with assistance from other area fire departments responded to a blaze at Bordingers Welding and Fabricating on Winney Hill Road Tuesday afternoon. 1 person was taken to Fox hospital for smoke inhalation and was released. The fire caused extensive damage to the business, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The State Department of Health is updating its alert to parents and caregivers regarding the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recall of ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula products, following a multi-state outbreak of infant botulism. The Department reminds health care providers that powdered infant formula, while generally safe, can occasionally contain contamination. Consumers can visit the FDA recall webpage at fda.gov for updated information, product photos and instructions for disposal or replacement.
