DEP Commissioner Rohit Aggarwala and Delaware County Board of Supervisors Chair Tina Molé signed an intergovernmental agreement that strengthens watershed protection while supporting the long-term vitality of our communities. Delaware County Planning Director Shelly Johnson Bennett told WCDO news about the new 4 year plan;

Johnson-Bennett said that typically a new agreement is agreed upon ever 4 years to protect the Watershed region of Delaware County, as well as New York City’s drinking water supply in the reservoirs.

UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital recently received federal funding in the amount of $667,500 to repair infrastructure at their Sidney Facility at 44 Pearl Street, CMH President & CEO Cecil Miller explains:

A Chenango County Grand Jury indicted 21 year old Kaylub Rifanburg of Norwich for 2nd & 3rd degree criminal possession of a weapon and possession of burglar’s tools. The indictment states that on August 25, Rifanburg was stopped by Norwich Police following a report of an erratic driver, Police discovered a loaded 9mm pistol, a large-capacity magazine, and a backpack containing ski masks and a lock pick. He faces court action on the Grand Jury charges at a later date.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office and family members of a missing Vestal man are still seeking answers to help locate 69 year old Eddie Rouhana, who been missing since January 11th. Rouhana was last seen at his business, Cars-R-US, located at 1170 of Upper Front Street in the Town of Chenango. Cell phone records show his phone was last used later that same day. The Rouhana family is offering a $20,000 reward for any information that leads directly to Eddie Rouhana’s whereabouts. The State Department of Criminal Justice Services & Ithaca Police were looking for 13 year old Kalia Hobbs of Ithaca, who was considered a missing endangered child, who had not been seen since Monday Afternoon at about 2:00 PM. The alert was dropped at about 6:30 This Morning, with Hobbs considered to be safe.

State Police and local law enforcement agencies throughout the state are continuing their Thanksgiving weekend patrols to target impaired and reckless driving, drivers using electronic devices, and a special emphasis on abiding the state’s Move Over Law, through this Sunday.

Chenango County Board of Supervisors passed the 2026 county budget this week, the $121.4 million budget spending plan represents almost a 7% increase of last year, but the budget was still under the State’s tax levy increase cap.
