The Governor has directed State agencies to prepare for strong storms, with Winds between 40 to [possibly 70 mile an hour gusts overnight, Power Outages from downed trees knocking down power lines could occur, New Yorkers Can Sign Up for Weather and Emergency Alerts by Texting 333111.

With the Federal Government shutdown and the SNAP program closed down, area food pantries are extremely busy with existing clients & new clients coming in to get food for their families, Elaine Reed of the Unadilla Food Pantry comments:

The Unadilla Food Pantry is located at 172 Main Street in Unadilla, also the Mobile Food Pantry sets up at the corner of State Route 7 and 8 on the 1st & 3rd Fridays of each month, starting at 1:00 PM, they will be there this Friday for those in need.

State Police are investigating an incident in which a marked State Police patrol vehicle was reported stolen in the early morning hours TODAY. Troopers from the Oneonta Barracks were notified that a local repair shop had been burglarized overnight, and a State Police vehicle that had been undergoing service at the location was taken, The vehicle was later located and recovered in Rensselaer County, A person found inside the vehicle was taken into custody and is currently being interviewed by investigators. The investigation remains ongoing.

40 year old David Tyner pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Broome County Court, in exchange for a sentence of 5 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision. On July 31, 2024, in Binghamton, Tyner was found in possession of methamphetamine with the intent to sell, the discovery occurred after Tyner was stopped by Binghamton Police for violating Traffic Laws while operating a motorized bicycle.
Initial results are in for yesterday’s elections, in The Town of Sidney Eric Wilson wins re-election for Town Supervisor, the 2 seats on the Sidney Town Board, go to Andrew Hinkley & Frank Selleck. The Sidney Town Justice winner is Jennifer Ruling. In Area Town Supervisor races, in Guilford Gilda Ward is the winner, in Unadilla George Denys wins easily, in the town of Colchester, the winner is Robert Hafele, in the town of Oneonta, the winner is William Rivera Jr.. The Cities of Norwich and Oneonta will have new Mayors, Robert Jeffery will be Norwich’s next mayor, in Oneonta the winner is Dan Butterman. In the race for Delaware County Treasurer, the winner is Carli Pinner.

State Police were dispatched to a report of a vehicle in a pond near the intersection of U.S. Route 20 and Skinner Road in the town of Richfield Springs. A passerby called 911 after observing a portion of the vehicle, Troopers located the vehicle and discovered a deceased victim inside. A preliminary investigation determined that a 39-year-old female from Richfield Springs failed to stop at a stop sign at Cole Hill Road at the intersection and continued into the pond. Members of the Underwater Recovery Team assisted on scene. The investigation is continuing.
