The Mayor of the Village of Sherburne is requesting a voluntary evacuation of the south end of the village due to flash flooding. Streets include Chapel, South Main and adjoining streets, it includes Sherburne Senior Housing.  A shelter is being set up at Sherburne-Earlville Elementary School, with 2  buses being sent to Sherburne Senior Housing to provide transportation for residents. Those who need assistance should  call the Sherburne Fire Department at 674-2204.  also, Prentice Street in the city of Norwich is closed due to flooding, according to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, a minor mudslide has been reported at Prospect mountain near Mygatt street in Binghamton where construction has been continuing on the I-86 project.

The son of Boxing Great Joe Frazier; Marvis Frazier will making appearances this weekend at 3 locations, for book signings of his biography “Meet Marvis Frazier”, co-written by Jamie Potter of Otego.  Frazier told WCDO News that he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps, didn’t make it to heavyweight championship status, and turned to a life as a minister:

Frazier will meet with fans at the Oneonta boys & girls club Saturday form 10:00 to noon, then at Pie in the Sky from 1:00 to 5:00 PM and on Sunday at the World of Faith Christian family center on route 7 in the town of Maryland at 10:00 AM.  Copies of Frazier’s book can be purchased at meetmarvisfrazier.com


There will be a lasagna dinner for the benefit of Christine Eldred at the Morris Fire Station tomorrow, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with take-outs available at 4:30 PM.  Fire destroyed Christine’s home in May and her friends have organized this fundraising dinner to assist her.  In addition to dinner, there will be a silent auction, raffle and musical entertainment.


Former world champion New York Yankee baseball player Bernie Williams will bring his guitar playing talents to the Foothills Performing Arts stage Friday, August 2nd at 8:00pm.  Tickets will go on sale this morning at 10:00am at 431-2080. More information is available at foothillsPAC.org.
