The Sidney American Legion Post# 183 is sponsoring a tribute-gala & fundraiser for the Sidney Fire Department Saturday at 1:00 PM, at 22 Union Street in Sidney.  Legion Spokesman Larry Halbert explains:

Halbert said that Auction items can be dropped off at the legion today or tomorrow morning, there will be a chicken barbecue, Chinese auction and entertainment, more information is available at 237-4762 or 563-8031.

Local organizers today announced an inaugural 5K run/walk through the City of Norwich to support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in their mission of funding childhood cancer research. The 5K run/walk will be held tomorrow with the start and end at East Park, in the City of Norwich at 9 am.

Approximately $150,000 has been raised locally to support childhood cancer research. All of the money raised for any of these events goes to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to fund childhood cancer research.

A Benefit will be held this Sunday for the Donald Alger Family of Sidney center, at Angus & Ale at 66 Main Street in Sidney.  The event will run from 12:00 noon to 4:00pm, a$5.00 Donation is requested at the door.  The Alger family was recently involved in a head-on car accident, with all 5 members injured. Money raised will assist in the family’s medical & rehabilitation bills.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will present the Jackie Robinson movie “42” at 7:00 tonight as the opening event of the Baseball Film Festival. The film will be shown in the Museum’s Grandstand Theater. Tickets are free but limited and must be reserved at 547-0397 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.
