The Investigation is continuing into fatal shootings in Mohawk & Herkimer yesterday, where 64 year old Kurt Meyers of Mohawk apparently set fire to his apartment, entered into a nearby barber shop, shot 4 people unprovoked, killing 2, he then drove about 1 mile to a car wash & oil change establishment in Herkimer, and shot & killed 2 people.  State police superintendent Joseph D’Amico released the names of the deceased:

Governor Cuomo was briefed and addressed reporters at state police barracks in Herkimer this afternoon:

Meyers was holed up in an abandoned bar on North Main Street in Herkimer overnight, gun fire had been exchanged at around 2:15 PM, and police have had no contact with Meyers.

43 year old Jeffrey Turner of Fenton pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Broome County Court to 2nd degree rape, 2nd degree criminal sexual act, use of a child in a sexual performance and promoting a sexual performance by a child, for alleged sex crimes against a 14-year-old girl.  Turner was arraigned & was remanded to county jail without bail; turner also faces 32 federal charges in connection with the case.

The state Supreme Court’s rejected a request for an injunction to overturn the NY SAFE Act.  Attorney General Eric Schneiderman stated that the court rightfully rejected an attempt to halt the State’s efforts to reduce gun violence and prevent the tragedies from the use of military style weapons and high capacity ammunition devices.  Schneiderman said that he would continue to defend the law against multiple lawsuits.

Today at 4:00 pm is the   Deadline to submit nomination to the Sidney chamber of commerce for the Citizen & Business of Years awards.  Winners of each award will be honored at the chamber’s annual dinner meeting in June.
