Sidney Village Police investigated a reported shooting on Johnson Circle last night.  During the course of the initial investigation, it was determined that the incident was a self inflicted gunshot wound to the hand.  State Police assisted Sidney Police last night at the scene, the investigation is continuing.

Governor Cuomo announced $4.5 million in grants to 46 organizations to help 2,600 emergency food providers throughout New York State respond to an increased need for food assistance. The move became necessary after the recent reduction in federal SNAP benefits by Congress in the Farm Bill Proposal.  Cuomo’s office said that the number of emergency meals reported for 2013 is trending at about 13% more than this time last year.

State Senator Jim Seward announced that his 3 district offices will serve as drop off points for holiday cards to be sent to service members as part of the American Red Cross 2013 Holiday Mail for Heroes program.  The Holiday cards may be dropped off at any of Senator Seward’s 3 district offices, located at 41 South Main Street in Oneonta, 235 North Prospect Street in Herkimer or 4030 West Road in Cortland.  Cards must be dropped off by December 5th to ensure their delivery. Red Cross volunteers have distributed more than 6.5 million cards for members of the U.S. Armed Forces, veterans and their families since the program started in 2006.
