State Police at Oneonta arrested 45-year-old Michael Stein of Delhi for Driving While Intoxicated & other vehicle and traffic law violation. The arrest occurred following a 1-car roll over accident on Coe Hill Road in Davenport. Troopers accuse Stein driving while intoxicated and crashing when he was using his cell phone to send a text message. Stein was transported to Fox Hospital for minor injuries; he was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Davenport at a later date.

18-year-old Shawn Burke of Norwich was arraigned this week on charges of 2nd degree burglary & petty larceny. Burke is accused of stealing an AK-47 rifle and other items from a residence in the City of Norwich, along with another unidentified teenager. Burke pleaded not guilty at arraignment Monday, he is due back in court at a later date

state police responded to the report of an accident Monday night at around 7:40 PM on the East River Road in Walton, 31-year-old Travis Roloson of Delhi drifted off the road and into a tree, he was killed instantly. Roloson’s girlfriend, 25-year-old Melissa Brannock was a passenger in the vehicle, she suffered a broken leg, and was taken to a Binghamton area hospital. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

A judge has ordered a psychiatric exam for 21-year-old Paul Bumbalo of Utica, who has been charged with 3 counts of 2nd degree murder of family members early Wednesday morning in Utica. Bumbalo’s case has been adjourned until February 9th when the results of the psychiatric exam will be released.

Congressman Chris Gibson announced the House passed the “Hire More Heroes” Act, a bill he co-authored to boost employment among veterans while providing relief to small business owners. The legislation allows businesses to hire veterans without having them count as full-time employees under the Affordable Care Act, currently companies with 50 or more full-time workers must provide health insurance for their employees, but Veterans already receive health benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs or Department of Defense. The Hire More Heroes Act passed the House last year, but the Senate failed to consider it.

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, who today convened the Assembly’s 2015-2016 Legislative Session. Silver was re-elected Speaker by members of the chamber and Assemblyman Joseph Morelle was re-appointed Majority Leader. Silver thanked his colleagues for re-electing him Speaker:
